VERNACCIA DI SAN GIMIGNANO

Vernaccia di San Gimignano is a vine that has a long history: the name probably comes from the Latin "Vernaculum" which means "place".

The harvest time varies on average from 15 September to 15 October. The wine made from this grape variety has a pale straw yellow color tending to golden with aging. The nose is fine, penetrating and characteristic. The flavor is dry and harmonious with a characteristic bitter almond aftertaste.
In 1966, the DOC was the first Italian white wine to be recognized and in 1993 he obtained the Denomination of Origin Controlled and Guaranteed.

From the outset, Teruzzi&Puthod’s mission has been to enhance this native grape variety: we have always invested in its development, seeking top quality, publicizing and promoting it both in Italy and worldwide. To taste Vernaccia di San Gimignano DOCG Teruzzi&Puthod means to taste the results of a long and tireless quest for quality and for the expression of the territory’s characteristics.
Our Vernaccia di San Gimignano vineyard covers an area of over 60 hectares. Teruzzi&Puthod is therefore the privately owned company with the largest cultivation of this vine and the leading privately owned company producing Vernaccia di San Gimignano.
The wine is very pleasantly fresh-tasting, with a fruity extremely pleasing aroma.

THE COMPANY

Teruzzi&Puthod was established in 1974 on the enchanting hills around San Gimignano with the mission to produce high-quality wines and to promote this unique territory with its rich heritage of history and winemaking culture.
The estate covers a sizeable 180 hectares, 94 of which are vineyarded. 60 hectares are dedicated to Vernaccia, making Teruzzi&Puthod the privately owned estate with the largest cultivation of this renowned native grape variety.
From the start, the company has focused on innovation and respect for the territory and the Tuscan viticultural tradition. Our painstaking work in the vineyards combined with the use of modern wine-making technologies have enabled us to enhance both the native and the international grape varities that we grow.

Today Teruzzi&Puthod stands out for the quality and uniqueness of its wines and for its connection with its birthplace: San Gimignano, a medieval jewel steeped in history and legends. The company is part of the Consorzio della Denominazione San Gimignano (a consortium of 77 producers of Vernaccia di San Gimignano), which is committed to improving the wines and boosting their image, promoting the brand, and to research and development on the quality of the product.

Teruzzi&Puthod “flies the Vernaccia flag worldwide”
With a production totalling in excess of one million bottles, Teruzzi&Puthod is the leading company in the San Gimignano area and one of the most prestigious Italian brands among quality wine exporters.

The brand’s history.

A convivial medieval scene, the Teruzzi&Puthod emblem, is the iconic image that characterizes and unifies the whole range of our wines and dominates our labels.
The scene, taken from the Bayeux Tapestry (XI century A.D.), depicts a celebratory banquet: at the centre there is Odo, Bishop of Bayeux, to whom the Latin phrase “et hic episcupus cibu et potu benedicit” (“here the bishop blesses the food and drink”) refers.
The image highlights the connection between wine and food, which has always been an integral part of Teruzzi&Puthod’s cultural heritage, and which celebrates wine as a symbol of conviviality, harmony and coming together.
