THE COMPANY

Disznoko Winery is located in Hungary at the southwestern end of the Tokaj-Hegyalja region, about 250 kilometers from Budapest; the estate, of 20 hectares, is situated on a hill of volcanic origin with clayey soil and pebbles of Perlite. On the top of this hill there is a rock that vaguely resembles a wild boar, that is a "diszno" in the Hungarian language. The Tokaj-Aegyalja region boasts the distinction of being the first region in the world to create a real scale of classification of wine-growing areas, and the Disznoko estate, since 1772, has always been classified as a 1st class vineyard. The vineyards are planted on the southern side of the hill, which thus protects them from the cold winds that come from the north. Since the advent of communism, the estate has been owned by the state, but after the fall of the regime it was bought, in 1992, by a large international group. Since that same date, the estate has been managed by the agricultural engineer M. Laszlo Meszaros. In the last twenty years, many improvements have been made both to the vines, which have been replanted, and to the Company's buildings, which have been restored or built from scratch; the cellar was built under the wine cellar, 10 meters underground, and guarantees a constant temperature of 12 ° throughout the year. The vines are typical of the area: the Furmint, which covers 60% of the surface of the vineyards, the Harslevelu, very fruity, the Zetà and a small amount of Muscat; the first three in a skilful assembly provide one of the most famous wines in the world, Tokaj, the wine that made Louis XIV exclaim 'the wine of kings, the king of wines'.
