Bordeaux: Sauternes

Sauternes, a renowned appellation on Bordeaux’s left bank, is famous for its sweet botrytized wines, made from grapes affected by Botrytis cinerea (noble rot). This natural process concentrates sugars and aromas, giving wines remarkable richness, balance, and longevity.

Main grapes are Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Muscadelle, enhanced by the Cironriver’s unique microclimate. The terroir of gravel, sand, and limestone-clay soils ensures aromatic depth and freshness.

The 1855 Classification highlights “Premier Cru Classé” estates and the exclusive “Premier Cru Supérieur”, reserved for Château d’Yquem.
