Southern Rhône
Southern Rhône, a vast wine-producing area around Avignon, produces wines of great richness and complexity.
In the reds, Grenache dominates, often accompanied by Syrah, Mourvèdre, Carignan, and Cinsault, creating intense, spicy, and generous blends. The whites, made from Grenache Blanc, Clairette, Roussanne, Marsanne, and Viognier, offer floral and fruity aromas with good freshness.
The main appellations include Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the symbol of the region with its famous "galets roulés" stones; Gigondas and Vacqueyras, powerful and structured; Tavel, famous for its characterful rosés; Lirac and the extensive Côtes-du-Rhône, which expresses the collective identity of the territory.
The terroir, composed of gravelly, sandy, calcareous, and clay soils, combined with the Mediterranean climate and the Mistral wind, favors complete ripening and wines of great intensity, warmth, and longevity.
