Nestled in the heart of the Chianti region, Castellare di Castellina is a beacon of authenticity and elegance, where respect for indigenous grape varieties is at the center of a production philosophy that celebrates the land and its history.
The vineyards of Castellare thrive on lands that have seen centuries of cultivation, nourished by a rich soil and a favorable climate that give the wines a unique structure and personality. Here, the Sangiovese and Canaiolo grapes are meticulously cultivated, following an approach that prioritizes quality over quantity, enhancing the intrinsic characteristics of these historical varieties.

THE COMPANY
A historic company in Chianti Classico, Castellare di Castellina was established in its current form in 1968 thanks to the merger of 5 different estates. A magical place where the vineyards, totaling 33 hectares, are perfectly integrated into the environment, among woods and other crops. An area where excellent exposure, good water drainage, mixed soils of limestone marls, galestro, and little clay have always produced well-structured, intense wines suitable for long aging in the bottle. The winery has been owned since the late 70s by entrepreneur Paolo Panerai, who immediately began a long research journey aimed at improving all its labels. A careful census of the vines, undertaken right after the purchase, allowed for the selection of the best species of Sangiovese for the Sodi di San Niccolò, the symbolic wine of the company. Not only that: an experimental plot planted on the property in collaboration with the Universities of Milan and Florence and the Institute of San Michele in Adige allows for continuous research on the best clones as well as the production of selected vines for the renewal of the vineyards. The world of Castellare di Castellina has grown over time; indeed, in 2004, in partnership with Les Domaines Baron de Rothschild-Lafite, Rocca di Frassinello was born, in the heart of Maremma. A splendid estate along the Tuscan coast where the best of Italy and France meet; a place where Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Shiraz find a home in perfect harmony, leading to the creation of wines of undeniable charm, intensity, and elegance. Reds that immediately appeal to an extremely heterogeneous audience, whose project finds completeness with the construction of the new winery, a project designed by Renzo Piano. However, Paolo Panerai's adventure in the world of wine does not stop at Tuscany alone. It is in Sicily that Feudi del Pisciotto and Gurra di Mare were subsequently established. The first is located between Caltagirone and Piazza Armerina: about forty hectares of vineyards mainly cultivated with Nero d’Avola for a winery characterized by the historic palmento, where wine was already made in the times of the Greeks and Romans. The second near Porto Palo, the ancient port of Selinunte, in one of the richest historical areas of Sicily, a place that produces warm and captivating white wines.
