Sol Lui by La Scolca is a refined and visionary white wine, resulting from Sauvignon Blanc and native white grapes from Piedmont, grown exclusively in the historic family vineyards. It is a “soloist” wine, unconventional yet perfectly consistent with the elegance that has identified La Scolca for over 100 years. The production process combines cryomaceration, fermentation in temperature-controlled steel, and extended aging on the lees, to express complexity, freshness, and aromatic depth. On the nose, it reveals ripe citrus, white flowers, aromatic herbs, and mineral notes; the palate is velvety, tense, and persistent. Dedicated by Chiara Soldati to her mother Luisa, whose initials appear on the label, it represents a tribute to tradition and a leap into the future. Ideal with raw seafood, tartare, vegetable starters, fresh cheeses, and fusion cuisine.

La Scolca

In the picturesque setting of Piedmont, specifically in the renowned area of Gavi, stands proudly the La Scolca winery. A true beacon of excellence in the world of white wines, La Scolca represents a pillar of Italian viticulture, where history and innovation blend harmoniously. Founded at the dawn of the twentieth century, the winery has managed to keep its tradition intact while always looking ahead to new challenges and horizons.
The territory of Gavi, with its green hills and temperate climate, offers an ideal environment for cultivating the area's queen grape variety: Cortese. This variety, with its innate elegance, finds its greatest splendor in the expert hands of the winemakers at La Scolca, transforming into wines of great longevity and extraordinary minerality. The flagship designation is the DOCG Gavi, which encapsulates the essence of this land and the wisdom of those who work it.
The production philosophy of La Scolca is a perfect balance between tradition and innovation. The winery not only respects traditional winemaking methods but also enhances them with cutting-edge techniques to best highlight the unique characteristics of Cortese. Among the main labels, the famous Gavi dei Gavi “Black Label” stands out, a wine that embodies luxury and refinement, known for being present on the most exclusive tables around the world. With its sophisticated bouquet, rich in floral and fruity notes, and its surprising versatility, the Gavi dei Gavi “Black Label” establishes itself as a must for lovers of high-quality white wines.

Address:
Road to Rovereto 170/R - 15066 Gavi (AL), Italy
Color: pale straw yellow, with greenish reflections that highlight its youth and freshness. The clarity is impeccable, with a brilliant transparency that anticipates a vibrant and clean sip.
Bouquet: harmonious and well-defined, it opens with a delicate fruitiness that recalls green apple, Williams pear, and white peach, accompanied by nuances of citrus such as lime and grapefruit. These intertwine with elegant hints of aromatic herbs, including sage, lemon thyme, and a touch of lemon balm. The bouquet is completed with a fresh floral imprint (hawthorn, wildflowers) and a subtle background minerality.
Taste: full and soft on the palate, with a round and caressing entry that evolves into a well-balanced freshness. The delicate vegetal notes recall fresh almond and cucumber peel, blending with salty accents and slight references to dry hay. The structure is balanced, supported by good persistence and a savory, citrus finish that adds dynamism and invites a second sip.

THE WINE
Sol Lui by La Scolca is a refined and visionary white wine, the result of Sauvignon Blanc and indigenous white grapes from Piedmont, cultivated exclusively in the historic family vineyards. It is a “soloist” wine, outside the box but perfectly consistent with the elegance that has identified La Scolca for over 100 years. The production process combines cryomaceration, fermentation in temperature-controlled steel, and extended aging on the lees to express complexity, freshness, and aromatic depth. On the nose, it reveals ripe citrus, white flowers, aromatic herbs, and mineral notes; the palate is velvety, tense, and persistent. Dedicated by Chiara Soldati to her mother Luisa, whose initials are on the label, it represents a homage to tradition and a leap into the future. Ideal with sea raw dishes, tartare, vegetable first courses, fresh cheeses, and fusion cuisine.
THE COMPANY

The estate La Scolca was purchased between 1917 and 1919 by the great-grandfather of the current owner Giorgio Soldati, who now runs the company together with his daughter Chiara Soldati.
The name of the plot derives from the ancient toponym Sfurca meaning "To look far" and the farmhouse that once stood there was indeed a lookout post; the surname fully reflects the proud and tenacious character of the owners and their wines.
At the time of purchase, the property was partly covered by forests and partly cultivated with wheat. It was a well-studied intuition to plant Cortese vineyards in 1900 in an area exclusively suited for the cultivation of red grape vineyards: never did the name of the Company prove to be prophetic. Production soon became a primary technical and entrepreneurial activity.
