Hibiscus

In the heart of the island of Ustica, a jewel set in the deep blue of the Mediterranean, the Hibiscus winery stands as a symbol of authenticity and passion. Here, in this pristine setting, nature provides a volcanic soil rich in minerals, blessed with a mild climate and constantly caressed by the sea breeze. It is in this scenario that the Hibiscus winery has found its soul, dedicating itself to the production of wines that tell the extraordinary beauty of Sicily.
Under the guidance of a philosophy that embraces innovation and sustainability, Hibiscus is committed to cultivating its vineyards with the utmost respect for the environment, minimizing the ecological impact. The grape varieties that dominate the scene are Zibibbo and Catarratto, two symbols of Sicilian oenology that, thanks to the skill of the winemakers, express their aroma and freshness to the fullest. Each bottle is a sensory journey, an invitation to discover the intense aromas and authentic flavors of this unique land.
Among the main labels, Zibibbo Hibiscus stands out, a wine that embodies the very essence of Ustica. With its floral and citrus notes, this white wine seduces the senses, offering a tasting experience that evokes images of orange blossoms and lemon trees under the Sicilian sun. It is a wine that speaks of freshness, liveliness, and a perfect balance between acidity and softness, capable of elegantly accompanying both seafood dishes and moments of pure conviviality.

THE WINE
'Onde di Sole' by Hibiscus is made from Grillo grapes that grow on the island of Ustica, from volcanic soils and vineyards that are practically at sea level. Intense notes of ancient apple and Cantaloupe melon, with hints of mandarin peel and thyme emerging at the end. Good body. Evident freshness and a sapidity that evokes the sea.
THE COMPANY

The agricultural company Hibiscus is the only wine producer in the Ustica area. Of volcanic origin, the island of Ustica is located north of the Palermo coast and has hosted one of Italy's first Marine Reserves since 1982.
Founded by Nicola Longo in the 1980s, Hibiscus is now managed by Margherita Longo and her partner Vito Barbera and spans about 10 hectares, in various districts in the northern part of the island, about 200 meters from the sea. The company, starting from native vineyards like inzolia, catarratto, grillo, and nero d'avola, produces wines that reflect the vocation of the island environment, strongly influenced by the proximity to the sea and a volcanic territory beaten by sun and wind. The flagship product of Hibiscus is Zhabib, a passito of zibibbo, born from Margherita's desire to challenge herself with a passito different from the universally known one from Pantelleria; a wine that differs in its cultivation system and for its good acidity due to a lower sugar residue compared to standard production, Zhabib evokes in a sip all the heterogeneity and beauty of the island territory of Ustica. The company, using certified organic methods, also dedicates itself to the cultivation of Ustica lentils, which have been a Slow Food presidium for almost 15 years, and in Trapani, on the hills between Erice and Valderice, where it has a small olive grove, produces an oil with very intense aromas, typical of the olive varieties used, which boasts the D.O.P. Valli Trapanesi designation.
Margherita Longo, guided like many winemakers from our islands by a strong visionary nature, is committed with all her productions to relaunch interest in the Ustica territory and its raw materials; the company, focusing on the continuity of quality rather than quantity, demonstrates rigor, respect for winemaking tradition, and gratitude towards the island environment, which has so much to offer.
