The Bolgheri Superiore 'Ornellaia' 2022 from Tenuta Ornellaia, “THE DETERMINATION” is born from a warm but balanced vintage. The grapes Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot are handpicked in 15 kg crates, selected through manual and optical sorting, then vinified separately in stainless steel and concrete tanks at 26–30°C, with approximately 3 weeks of maceration. The malolactic fermentation occurs in French oak barriques (70% new), where the wine ages for 18 months, followed by blending and further aging for 6 months in barrique and 12 in bottle. On the nose, it opens with ripe black fruits, sweet spices, vanilla, and tobacco. The palate is broad, elegant, and structured, with silky tannins, balanced freshness, and a long and savory finish. Perfect with red meats, game, aged cheeses, and important Tuscan dishes.

Ornellaia

In the enchanting setting of Tuscany, amidst the gentle hills of Bolgheri, stands the legendary winery Ornellaia, a name that echoes elegance and power. Founded in an exceptional terroir, Ornellaia represents one of Italy's most prestigious labels, where the unique microclimate and mineral-rich soils create the ideal conditions for cultivating noble grapes. Here, the varieties of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot find their fullest expression, giving life to wines that embody the Bordeaux style with an artistic touch in every vintage.
The production philosophy of Ornellaia is a perfect balance between tradition and innovation, where meticulous attention to detail merges with a contemporary approach to winemaking. The vineyards are tended with dedication, respecting the ecosystem and enhancing biodiversity, to ensure that each bottle tells the story of the land with authenticity and passion. The winery is distinguished by its ability to combine power and finesse, creating wines that captivate with their aromatic complexity and depth of flavors.
Among the main labels, Ornellaia and Le Serre Nuove stand as symbols of excellence. Ornellaia, in particular, is a masterpiece of structure and harmony, a wine that seduces with its intense aromas of black fruits, spices, and balsamic notes, supported by velvety tannins and a persistence that seems endless. Le Serre Nuove, on the other hand, represents a more accessible yet no less captivating version, characterized by freshness and dynamism, perfect for those seeking elegance without compromise.
We invite wine enthusiasts to discover the magnificent creations of Ornellaia on Vino45. A sensory journey to the heart of Bolgheri, where the art of winemaking transforms into pure emotion.

THE WINE
The Bolgheri Superiore 'Ornellaia' 2022 from Tenuta Ornellaia, “THE DETERMINATION” is born from a warm yet balanced vintage. The grapes Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot are handpicked in 15 kg crates, selected through manual and optical sorting, then vinified separately in stainless steel and cement tanks at 26–30°C, with macération lasting about 3 weeks. The malolactic fermentation takes place in French oak barriques (70% new), where the wine ages for 18 months, followed by blending and an additional 6 months in barrique and 12 in bottle.
THE ESTATE
It was in 1981 that Marquis Lodovico Antinori, cousin of Piero Antinori, founded the Tenuta Ornellaia, in the heart of the Bolgheri area, a few kilometers from the Mediterranean coast. With the first harvest in 1985, what would become an icon among the SuperTuscan wines was born: the “Ornellaia”, which was put on the market three years later, in 1988. With the inauguration of the estate, the world-renowned winemaker, Michel Rolland, began to handle the technical aspects of the winery. Subsequently, in the 1990s, the other two labels were born: "Le Volte" and "Le Serre Nuove". At the beginning of the 2000s, Robert Mondavi, the great Californian producer, acquired the Tenuta, later selling 50% to the Marchesi de' Frescobaldi, who would purchase the other 50% just three years later. The late 2000s also saw the birth of the label "Poggio alle Gazze", which would be followed by the highly selective late harvest wine "Ornus", made from pure petit manseng grapes. A legendary winery, therefore, credited with having written the history of Bolgheri. With almost one hundred hectares of vineyards, to which another thirteen are added for rent, the Tenuta Ornellaia has always focused on a single goal: quality. Every decision, every choice, considers every small detail, and from the vineyard to the final bottling, shortcuts are not allowed. During the harvest, only the most precious and balanced clusters are selected and picked, later processed separately in the winery, based on the origin cru. Then a year of resting in barrels, followed by the composition of the blend: everything is aimed at enhancing every little nuance of the terroir and valuing the expression of each single vintage, always respecting the continuity of what can be considered the “Ornellaia style”, synonymous with experience, competence, and determination, which translates into complexity and elegance that are hard to match.
