The Barolo ‘Margheria’ by Massolino originates from the eponymous cru in Serralunga d’Alba, on calcareous-clay soils rich in mineral substances, which give depth and structure to the wine. The Nebbiolo grapes, coming from historic vineyards, are hand-picked, vinified with slow fermentation and long maceration on the skins, to best extract aromas and tannins. The aging occurs for 30 months in large Slavonian oak barrels, followed by at least 12 months in bottle, to ensure balance and complexity. On the nose, notes of ripe cherry, tobacco, sweet spices, and licorice emerge, while the palate is broad, enveloping, with dense yet elegant tannins and a long and balsamic finish. A wine of great longevity, ideal with braised dishes, game, roasts, and aged cheeses.

Massolino

In the picturesque setting of Serralunga d'Alba, the vibrant heart of enological Piedmont, the Massolino winery stands as a bastion of classic Barolo. Founded in 1896, this winery has built its reputation on an uncompromising dedication to tradition and excellence. In a region where the morning fog gently caresses the rows of vines, Massolino lovingly and rigorously cultivates the native varieties of Nebbiolo and Dolcetto, respecting the natural rhythm of the seasons and the vocation of the terroir.
The Barolo Margheria is the flagship of the production, a wine embodying the austerity and longevity typical of Serralunga. With its deep and complex character, this Barolo fascinates with its aromas of rose petals, ripe cherries, and earthy notes, evolving into tones of sweet spices and cocoa over the years. Each sip tells a story of patience and mastery, reflecting the very essence of this generous land.
Let yourself be seduced by the wines of Massolino available on Vino45: an invitation to discover the authentic spirit of Serralunga Barolo, where tradition and passion merge into an unparalleled enological experience.

THE WINE
The Barolo ‘Margheria’ by Massolino is born in the homonymous cru in Serralunga d’Alba, on calcareous-clay soils rich in mineral substances, which give depth and structure to the wine. The grapes Nebbiolo, coming from historic vineyards, are hand-harvested, vinified with slow fermentation and long maceration on the skins, to best extract aromas and tannins. The aging takes place for 30 months in large Slavonian oak barrels, followed by at least 12 months in bottle, to ensure balance and complexity. On the nose, there are notes of ripe cherry, tobacco, sweet spices, and licorice, while the palate is broad, enveloping, with dense but elegant tannins and a long and balsamic finish. A wine of great longevity, ideal with braised dishes, game, roasts, and aged cheeses.
THE COMPANY

The history of the winery Massolino began in 1896, the year Giovanni founded the company in Serralunga d'Alba. The first proper winery, however, was built by Giuseppe, Giovanni's son, who, along with his sister Angela, expanded the property by annexing other lands and in 1934 founded the Consortium for the protection of Barolo and Barbaresco. Giovanni, Camilla, and Renato, three of Giuseppe's children, brought the company to a turning point, thanks to the purchase of crus that are now true legends among enthusiasts: Vigna Rionda, Margheria, and Parafada.
Today, the company is led by brothers Franco and Roberto Massolino, aided by their uncle Renato and Giovanni Angeli. Their work condenses the experience of an entire generation and the ambition of those who know they must honor a historic winery and a unique terroir, that of Serralunga d'Alba. In this picturesque medieval village, situated on one of the beautiful hills of the Langhe, in the heart of the Barolo production area, the life of the winery Massolino thrives, now an essential national reference point for the production of high-quality wines.
"Making wine with passion, in its territory of origin, preserving the typicity of the native vine with the conviction that among the vines, the hills, and the winemakers, there is a deep and palpable bond, made of fidelity cemented by the familiarity with the same places. Since 1896, the Massolino family has produced wine this way, faithful to this philosophy and the ability to innovate in the name of tradition. After all, faithful to itself." These are the words that describe the philosophy of the winery Massolino, a winery driven by love for its territory and its vineyards, always faithful to a family tradition that is now more than a century old.
