The Dolomiti Rosso IGT "Lowengang Historic Blend" 2020 by Alois Lageder comes from the best plots of the Löwengang vineyard, one of the oldest in Alto Adige with vines about 145 years old. It is an elegant blend of Carmenère, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, made with spontaneous fermentation and partial whole-cluster use. Ageing takes place in large and small wooden barrels, followed by long bottle refinement. The bouquet shows raspberry, blackberry, cherry, spicy, earthy notes and a hint of smokiness. On the palate it reveals vigorous structure, balance and finesse, with a pleasant bitter vein. Ideal with red meats, game, aged cheeses and mushroom dishes, it has an aging potential of 5 to 20 years.

THE COMPANY

A true synonym of excellence, Alois Lageder over the years has demonstrated the best that Alto Adige can express in terms of personality, elegance, and territorial adherence. A result born from a clear vision of their work, where every activity is closely linked to the others in a virtuous circle that has been completed with the conversion of the vineyards to biodynamics.
Founded in 1823 and now in its sixth generation, the company stands out for its ability to blend tradition and innovation: "quality is always the result of many details, sometimes even minimal - remembers Alois Lageder - and in all phases of processing, we first of all try to find harmony among all the factors involved, working in harmony with nature." It is no coincidence that each wine, like few others in the region, is able to tell the ever-diverse characteristics of its vineyard of origin - Alto Adige is indeed a land extremely rich in soil variety, microclimatic areas, and exposures, which therefore offers ideal conditions for producing wines with a marked individuality. The grapes harvested in the family's vineyards, about 50 hectares between Magrè, Cortaccia, Termeno, and in the area of Lake Caldaro, are cultivated using certified organic and biodynamic methods by Demeter. Moreover, in addition to managing their vineyards, the company collaborates with a number of trusted winemakers from different areas of Alto Adige, vineyards that collectively extend over another 110 hectares, about a quarter of which are cultivated according to biodynamic principles.
It is from this extraordinary context that wines are born that are true ambassadors of the territory, charming whites and reds that make up an assortment composed of three quality levels: the Classics, the Terroir Selections, the Masi.
