The Barbera d'Alba 'Gallina' by La Spinetta originates from the homonymous cru in Neive, in the province of Cuneo, from 55-year-old vines. It is a Barbera that presents floral and balsamic notes, equipped with a gentle acidity and an unexpected tannic texture. The maceration and alcoholic fermentation take place in temperature-controlled tanks for an average period of 14-15 days. The malolactic fermentation is carried out in French oak barrels, of second and third use, followed by aging for about 18 months. This is followed by bottle aging for about 12 months. It immediately impresses with its bouquet of ripe raspberry, violet, and vanilla aromas. On tasting, it is fresh and full-bodied, with floral and balsamic notes. The finish is long and harmonious. Only 7,500 bottles are produced.

THE COMPANY

La Spinetta is today one of the most important wineries in Piedmont, a true reference point for the production of Barolo and Barbaresco. It is a family-run business that was founded in 1977, when Giuseppe Rivetti, known as “Pin”, decided after his marriage to move to the top of the hill of Castagnole Lanze, called La Spinetta. It is here that Giuseppe began to experiment with a traditional sweet wine from Piedmont, Moscato. Since then, many steps forward have been taken, and the focus of production shifted to the creation of red wines, with the birth of the first Barbareschi in the mid-90s. From this moment, the rise of the winery La Spinetta has been continuous, so much so that the great successes led the ownership to expand beyond the borders of Piedmont, venturing into Tuscany, where in 2001, 65 hectares were purchased between Pisa and Volterra. Today, La Spinetta is skillfully managed by Giorgio, Bruno, and Carlo Rivetti, representatives of a family that has made hard work the secret of its success.
La Spinetta spans about 100 hectares of vineyards, acquired over time with great care. The vineyards enjoy excellent exposure, facing south, southeast, and southwest, and the vines have an average age ranging from 35 to 65 years, ideal for producing expressive and compact wines. The wines of La Spinetta are made exclusively from native grape varieties that historically belong to the areas where they grow and develop. This is a very wise choice aimed at enhancing the territory, avoiding the uniformity of flavors that too often goes in fashion. Nebbiolo first, Barbera, and Moscato are therefore the most prominent grapes, cultivated with very low yields and meticulous work, because only from careful daily care of the vineyard can great wines be born.
It is precisely great bottles that should be discussed when looking at the range produced each year by the winery La Spinetta, where red wines are the undisputed stars of a production that speaks and tells the territory impeccably, bringing the oldest traditions of the Langhe to life with the light of the most modern technologies. Obviously, one cannot help but fall in love with the various labels dedicated to Barbaresco and Barolo, wines that, in every variation, are able to amaze, always achieving absolute perfection.
