The Pinot Noir 'Mt. Jefferson' from Cristom is produced at the Eileen Vineyard estate of Cristom Vineyards, in the heart of the Willamette Valley. The first vines were planted in 1997, and in 2006 the vineyard was expanded. The temperature fluctuations allow the grapes to ripen slowly, accumulating very intense scents and aromas. It is a prestigious made in USA version of the red from Burgundy. Careful winemaking using only indigenous yeasts and a long aging of about 11 months in French oak tonneaux result in an elegant and refined label, revealing intense hints of black cherry, brandied cherries, and blueberries, with spicy notes of licorice, cinnamon, and underbrush. The taste is velvety and well-structured, multifaceted and complex, with an ethereal finish.

Cristom

Hidden among the green and rolling hills of the Willamette Valley, in Oregon, the winery Cristom represents a fascinating bridge between Burgundy tradition and the modern American winemaking spirit. Here, the wild nature merges with artisanal wisdom that respects the past but does not fear innovation. Cristom is especially known for its Pinot Noir, a wine that embodies the essence of this region and reflects the unique influence of the local terroir, thanks to the meticulous care dedicated to every production phase.
The philosophy of the winery Cristom is based on a harmonious balance between innovation and tradition. With an almost reverential respect for Burgundy techniques, the winemakers of Cristom embrace an approach that values the biodiversity of the vineyard and the natural expression of the grapes. The vines, mainly composed of Pinot Noir and Viognier, are tended using sustainable methods that respect the environment and promote soil health, thus ensuring wines that authentically speak of their place of origin.
Among the standout labels, the Mt. Jefferson Cuvée stands out as a refined example of Cristom's savoir-faire. This Pinot Noir presents a complex aromatic bouquet, where notes of ripe red fruits intertwine with earthy and spicy hints. On the palate, the wine reveals an elegant and silky structure, with a persistent finish that invites contemplation and prolonged enjoyment.

THE COMPANY

Cristom is located in the Eola-Amity Hills AVA, a sub-appellation of the more well-known Willamette Valley AVA. Cristom is about 10 km north of Salem and 10 miles south of Dundee. The winery is located about 36 miles east of the Pacific Ocean and about 65 miles west of the Cascade Range; approximately half a mile from the 45th parallel. The soils are mainly rich in volcanic material and very well-drained. The area is characterized by cool afternoon breezes blowing in from the Pacific Ocean. This wind blows directly east and makes its way through the Van Duzer Corridor, which is the lowest point of the Pacific Coast Range. Paul and Eileen Gerrie founded Cristom in 1992: for 22 years they have been known for producing balanced and eloquent Pinot Noir, a sincere expression of the territory. The winery logo for Cristom was commissioned from artist Timothy Tyler and presents as a sort of coat of arms; the name Cristom honors that of Gerrie's two children, Christine and Tom. Meanwhile, the owned vineyards are named after the women in the Gerrie family. Of the 130 hectares owned, 24 hectares are vinified. The company has been sustainably farming since 1992 and today both the vineyards and the winery have earned the sustainability certification from Oregon's LIVE (Low Input Viticulture and Enology) program.
