THE ESTATE

Domaine Trémeaux is situated in the heart of Burgundy, a region known for its characteristic and some of the finest wines in France. The beautiful village of Mercurey has been synonymous with passion for over a century and is part of French winemaking history, now in its fourth generation of winemakers. Gabriel Trémeaux founded the winery in the early 20th century. With the outbreak of World War I, the winery was passed on to his wife Marta. Later, son George modernized the winery and focused solely on producing AOC Mercurey wines. Today, Gilles, the son, heads the winery and has introduced the use of oak barrels for aging the wine.
Between Beaune and Cluny, in the heart of the Côte Chalonnaise, Mercurey is one of the most important wine appellations in Burgundy, both for its size and the reputation of its wines. The Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC) "Mercurey" was established in 1923. The vineyards of Domaine Trémeaux cover about 10 hectares exclusively within the Mercurey appellation, located on clay-limestone soils and enjoying an ideal climate with a southeast exposure.
The wines produced are still the original ones from a century ago: "Les Croichots" and "Les Naugues" for Mercurey Premier Cru; "Les doués", "Le Closeau", "Les Vignes Blanches" for Mercurey Village. The quality of these wines is mainly ensured by careful and respectful work in the vineyard, allowing for the best grapes from this exceptional terroir.
