The Pinot Noir ‘Little Beauty’ 2020 by Vinultra comes from Marlborough in northern New Zealand, where the cool, windy oceanic climate and strong day–night temperature shifts ensure slow ripening and complex aromas. Gravelly, draining soils of the river valleys give elegance and minerality, while clayey soils add structure and depth. Made from 100% Pinot Noir, it ferments with indigenous yeasts and partly whole clusters, then ages 12 months in French oak barriques. The bouquet shows cherry, berries, violet, herbs, smoky notes. The palate is juicy, fresh, balanced, with silky tannins and a long finish, ideal with lamb, mushrooms, light game.

THE COMPANY

Vinultra is located in Marlborough, in one of the richest, most loved, and well-known wine regions of New Zealand. The cultivated grape varieties are the renowned Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir (the flagship varieties of this area) along with Riesling, Pinot Gris, and Gewurztraminer. Marlborough is situated in the northernmost part of the South Island on the eastern coast. It is the largest wine region in New Zealand with about 22,000 hectares of vineyards in total and boasts very unique pedoclimatic conditions, entirely favorable to viticulture, with generally long and dry summers, intense daylight, cool and breezy nights—ideal conditions for achieving perfect grape ripening that will yield wines with strong aromatic scents and intense flavors. The wines are produced from individual vineyards located on rolling river terraces, each with a particular soil composition that distinguishes them.
