THE COMPANY
When talking about Pinot Noir in Italy, it is essential to refer to the winery Gottardi, which was established in 1986 when a wine merchant from Innsbruck - namely Bruno Gottardi from Trentino - managed to realize a long-cherished dream by purchasing six hectares of vineyards in the now-famous location of Mazzon, considered the Italian paradise of Pinot Noir. After carefully restoring the rows of vines and building a modern wine-making cellar, the first vintage was bottled in 1995, which immediately established itself at very high qualitative levels. Currently, with about nine hectares of vineyards, the company is owned and managed by Alexander Gottardi, who has turned the high standards achieved in the past into a constant challenge for improvement and future developments. Among the rows, the plants grow on soils rich in sandstone and limestone, enjoy a particularly favorable microclimate, and are cultivated with full respect for the environment, nature, and ecosystem. After a brief period, during which Chardonnay and Gewürztraminer were produced from 2006 to 2009, the maximum attention is currently focused exclusively on the pinot noir variety, whose grapes are treated in the least invasive way possible. In the cellar, the movements of the wine occur by gravity, fermentations take place in open oak vats, and aging is carried out for one year in barrique. This way, a great Pinot Noir comes to life, now recognized as one of the best in Italy, pure and intact in fruit, elegant and refined, highly adherent to the varietal and the territory, as well as long and deep in every subtle organoleptic nuance. The Pinot Noir branded Gottardi is a flagship of the most excellent winemaking not only of Trentino Alto Adige but of the entire Peninsula.
