The 'Pugnitello' from San Felice originates from an ancient Tuscan grape variety (named for the shape of its bunch, which resembles a small fist), rediscovered and studied in collaboration with the Universities of Florence and Pisa in the experimental vineyards of San Felice (Vitiarium). It is the tangible result of 20 years of research and experimentation aimed at saving and enhancing native Tuscan grape varieties at risk of extinction. This pure version stands out for its originality and pronounced characteristics of softness and fleshiness. A bouquet of remarkable complexity with notes of cinnamon, cloves, mixed berry jam, and hints of tobacco. Velvety, with powerful returns of fruit and savoriness. Excellent with pasta dishes with meat sauce, roasts, and white meats. Only 7,000 bottles.

San Felice

Set in the heart of Tuscany, among the hills of Chianti Classico, stands the prestigious winery San Felice. A place where history and innovation intertwine in a harmonious embrace, expressing the most authentic essence of this legendary land. With a heritage that roots in the past, San Felice is a stronghold of Tuscan winemaking tradition, yet always with an eye towards the future.
This winery is renowned for its commitment to enhancing indigenous grape varieties, such as Sangiovese and the rare Pugnitello, which are cultivated with care and dedication in their vineyards. San Felice embraces a production philosophy that combines traditional methods with cutting-edge agronomic projects, aiming to maximize the intrinsic characteristics of its wines.
Among the most iconic labels of the winery, "Il Grigio" and "Vigorello" stand out. "Il Grigio" is a Chianti Classico DOCG that embodies the elegance and complexity of this denomination, with notes of ripe red fruits, delicate spices, and a persistent and harmonious finish. "Vigorello," on the other hand, represents a bold exploration of the territory's potential, a wine that captivates with its structure and aromatic depth, uniting tradition and innovation in a glass.
We invite wine enthusiasts to discover the refined creations of San Felice on Vino45, to experience an oenological journey that celebrates the past and the future of Tuscan viticulture.

THE COMPANY

San Felice is a historic winery of Chianti Classico, located in the eponymous locality in the territory of Castelnuovo Berardenga. The first wine productions in the ancient Pieve San Felice in Pincis date back to the Etruscan era and experienced significant development starting from the 1400s, as historical sources attest, maintaining its presence over the centuries and achieving important successes throughout the 1900s, thanks also to brilliant insights. The winery took its current form in 1978 when it was acquired by the Allianz group, and it grew to acquire other smaller wineries. Today it includes, in addition to the picturesque estates of Chianti, the Campogiovanni estate in Montalcino and the Bell’Aja estate in Bolgheri.
The San Felice estate, the main site of this large production reality, extends over more than 650 hectares, of which 140 are dedicated to vineyards. The fortunate combination of climate, soil, and exposure ensures the perfect ripening of the red grapes grown, particularly Sangiovese. The maintenance of ancient terraced vineyards divided by dry stone walls and a sustainable approach called “precision viticulture,” aimed at limiting treatments, allows for the preservation of biodiversity. The experimental project “Vitiarum” also involves the preservation of 270 ancient grape varieties collected over 1.6 hectares of vineyard to prevent them from falling into oblivion, thus preserving the ampelographic heritage typical of the area. The Campogiovanni estate, on the other hand, spans 65 hectares southwest of Montalcino, while the more recent Bell’Aja in Bolgheri now covers just over 6 hectares.
The wines of San Felice are celebrated expressions of the Tuscan territory, known and appreciated by multiple generations of wine lovers. The “Vigorello,” for example, introduced back in 1968, was the first example of Supertuscan and continues to amaze and captivate today. Another historic label is “Il Grigio,” an intense and traditional expression of Chianti Classico. All other labels also reveal a classic and well-established approach, behind which lies the great success of this winery in the world.
