The Brunello di Montalcino 'Le Macioche' by Famiglia Cotarella is a label that confirms its position at the top of both national and international critics. Made from pure Sangiovese grapes, with vines over 25 years old in vineyards located about 450 meters above sea level. Harvested strictly by hand, followed by careful vinification, the final aging phase lasts 3 years in large oak barrels. Wild plum and hints of moss and juniper greet the palate, finishing with a clean and deep drink, with an elegant and long sip. A vigorous red that enjoys an important but balanced tannic structure, with a long finish. An unmistakable and unparalleled label for its tone and sincerity, ideal for pairing with classic Tuscan meat dishes.

Cotarella

In the picturesque crossroads between Lazio and Umbria, where tradition meets innovation, the Cotarella winery comes to life. Born from the creative flair of a family of world-renowned oenologists, with Riccardo Cotarella at the helm, this wine reality has become a point of reference for those seeking elegant and modern wines, capable of captivating the most demanding palates internationally.
Immersed in the lush hilly landscapes of these two Italian regions, Cotarella has been able to capture the essence of the territory, producing wines that celebrate the IGP Umbria and Lazio denominations. The varieties of grapes cultivated, from Grechetto to Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, reflect a wise combination of local tradition and openness to the most appreciated international varieties. These grapes, nurtured with passion and respect for the environment, give rise to wines that stand out for their distinctive character and uncompromising quality.
Among the flagship labels of the winery, Montiano and Sodale stand out as authentic expressions of the Cotarella style. Montiano, with its complexity and aromatic depth, reveals itself as a wine of great charm and structure, while Sodale enchants with its elegance and softness, representing a perfect balance between tradition and modernity.

THE WINE
The Brunello di Montalcino 'Le Macioche' by Famiglia Cotarella is a label that continues to be at the top of national and international criticism. An unmistakable and unparalleled label for tone and sincerity, ideal for pairing with classic Tuscan meat dishes.
THE COMPANY

Le Macioche is a winery in Montalcino active since the early 1980s and now managed by the Cotarella family, particularly by the three cousins Dominga, Enrica, and Marta. In this entirely female management, the spirit, experience, and efficiency of one of the most important families in the history of wine in Italy are embodied, which translates into the production of high-quality labels. The Le Macioche winery was founded by the Mazzocchi family, choosing a name that, in the Sienese dialect, indicates the roots of the strawberry tree, a plant very present on the estate. Starting from the 2017 harvest, the production bears the signature of the important Cotarella family, which has since converted the entire estate to organic farming. All the vines were planted in the early 1980s and are situated on hilly soils rich in clay, with outcroppings of galestro rocks. These conditions, along with the altitude of 450 meters and exposures to the southeast and southwest, contribute to the production of Sangiovese grapes with great potential. The top-level enological management translates this great potential into high expressions of the territory: wines characterized by personality, substance, and structure, always marked by elegance and balance. The wines of Le Macioche powerfully and confidently express the personality that Sangiovese assumes in the Montalcino area. The Brunello labels are austere, important, and rich in extract, with the typical aromatic richness of the southern slope of the denomination. These are reds aged in large oak barrels, as tradition dictates, and require a long bottle aging to express themselves at their best. The skill of the Cotarella family is well recognizable in the willingness to adapt great enological expertise to the typicity of the Ilcinese territory, focusing on uncompromising quality and achieving outstanding results.
