The 'Marciliano' from the Famiglia Cotarella is a great classic based on cabernet sauvignon and franc, grapes that here express their best. A red wine whose vinification takes place in steel and whose maturation continues in barrique for at least 16 months. A deep and complex wine, warm and enveloping, balanced by a soft and defined tannic structure, with great harmony. A perfect expression of the wine-growing potential of the Montecchio territory and the commitment to excellence of the Cotarella family.

Cotarella

In the picturesque crossroads between Lazio and Umbria, where tradition meets innovation, the Cotarella winery comes to life. Born from the creative flair of a family of world-renowned oenologists, with Riccardo Cotarella at the helm, this wine reality has become a point of reference for those seeking elegant and modern wines, capable of captivating the most demanding palates internationally.
Immersed in the lush hilly landscapes of these two Italian regions, Cotarella has been able to capture the essence of the territory, producing wines that celebrate the IGP Umbria and Lazio denominations. The varieties of grapes cultivated, from Grechetto to Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, reflect a wise combination of local tradition and openness to the most appreciated international varieties. These grapes, nurtured with passion and respect for the environment, give rise to wines that stand out for their distinctive character and uncompromising quality.
Among the flagship labels of the winery, Montiano and Sodale stand out as authentic expressions of the Cotarella style. Montiano, with its complexity and aromatic depth, reveals itself as a wine of great charm and structure, while Sodale enchants with its elegance and softness, representing a perfect balance between tradition and modernity.
We invite all enthusiasts to discover the Cotarella labels on Vino45, a sensory journey through the hills of Lazio and Umbria, where every sip tells a story of passion, innovation, and respect for the land.

THE WINE
The 'Marciliano' by the Famiglia Cotarella is a great classic based on cabernet sauvignon and franc, grapes that express their best here. A red wine whose fermentation takes place in steel and whose maturation continues in barrique for at least 16 months. A deep and complex wine, warm and enveloping, balanced by a soft and defined tannic structure, with great harmony. A perfect expression of the viticultural potential of the Montecchio area and the commitment to excellence of the Cotarella Family.
THE COMPANY
The bond between the Cotarella Family and the world of wine began in the 1960s, when Antonio and Domenico Cotarella, winemakers in Monterubiaglio, a fraction of the municipality of Castel Viscardo in the province of Terni, created the first winery for their own wine production. The brothers Renzo and Riccardo Cotarella, both enologists raised in a land of long winemaking traditions, driven by their father Domenico's passion, then founded the current “Falesco” in 1979, transforming what was a small family business into a successful winemaking enterprise to pass on to future generations.
It is here, at the crossroads of Umbria and Lazio, that wines of undeniable charm are born, characterized by a contemporary style and at the same time distinguished by a particular longevity. Wines that in just a few decades have become ambassadors of Italian winemaking in the world.
The company currently spans a vineyard area of about 280 hectares, to which an additional ninety hectares are rented. In a hilly area characterized by volcanic soil, both native and international grape varieties are cultivated, including aleatico, trebbiano, malvasia, verdicchio, sangiovese, and vermentino, as well as merlot, syrah, viognier, and cabernet. Grapes grown with full respect for the environment and ecosystem, which in the winery are processed using the most modern and advanced enological tools, always employed without ever distorting what the terroir and the season have allowed the fruit to express.
