The Merlot Riserva 'Cortazo', Single Vineyards line, from Pfitscher is made from grapes coming from the 'Brenntal' vineyard in Cortaccia, famous as one of the hottest areas in South Tyrol. It matures for twelve months in small oak barrels. A robust and complex wine with refined tannins, shades of ruby red, and light notes of violet and berries; on the palate, it presents a full taste and a velvety finish. An ideal red with red meats, game birds, and hard cheeses.

THE COMPANY
For generations, Pfitscher has been synonymous with a passion for good wine. It's no coincidence that we are in Montagna. Montagna is located in South Tyrol, in the Bassa Atesina. And the Bassa Atesina is dedicated to wine! We couldn't do anything else even if we wanted to...
In our family, three generations of winemakers work and live together. It is amazing to see how the different characters and peculiarities of each member of our family come together and blend harmoniously: wisdom and creativity combined with true manual labor and a great dose of passion.
The Pfitscher family has been producing wine since 1861. Over 150 years in which our wine, as well as our philosophy, has undergone a significant evolution. What was asked of wine in the past is very different from what is asked today. A change that our father Klaus recognized and understood 40 years ago when he decided to focus on the vinification of more ambitious grape varieties and thus aim 100 percent for quality. A concept that, at the time, was not yet widespread in the South Tyrolean wine production scene. But the facts have proven him right. Today, our wines are an expression of the vital force of the vineyard and the genuine purity of the wine.
CASA CLIMA WINE
How did the Pfitscher winery become the first CasaClima Wine certified winery in Italy? Very simple: with our desire to live and work in harmony with nature. For a product that is as natural and genuine as possible.
We confess: the certificate we received at the end of the construction work was not our primary goal! What we wanted was to best showcase our wine by producing it in a natural and sustainable context. It was only during the work that we learned about the certification from the CasaClima Agency of South Tyrol. And since our project already largely met the necessary requirements, we decided to try to obtain it. To receive the CasaClima Wine certificate, it has been and still is necessary to take numerous measures to ensure sustainability and reduce environmental impact, in all areas, from production to processing to packaging. Also, a responsible approach to energy and water resources – and, not least, the quality of living – must be respected. And we succeeded thanks to our collaboration with the Agency.
STEAP VINEYARDS
We work various vineyards and lands in five municipalities of South Tyrol. A job that often makes us sweat! But it is also a labor worth doing: as affirmed by wine lovers, who appreciate our labels especially for their freshness and sincerity.
We produce our wine in the territory of five different municipalities, where the conditions could not be more varied, but always in perfect harmony with the different characters and peculiarities of our unmistakable wines.
