The Marsala Vergine Riserva “VR3911” 2011 from Florio is obtained from overripe Grillo grapes, harvested in September from the sandy vineyards of Marsala, kissed by the briny winds of the Mediterranean. Vinified without the addition of alcohol according to the traditional method, it has been aging since October 3, 2011 in the unique 16SAG oak barrel from Allier, stored in the historic Cantina Garibaldi, located 124 meters from the sea. After over 13 years of maturation, it offers a vibrant, fresh, and strongly savory profile, with a dry and lean tannin. On the nose, it opens with an elegant balance between maritime and bitter orange notes, with hints of dried fruit, spices, and blonde tobacco. Limited and numbered edition, perfect when paired with blue cheeses, bottarga, foie gras or as a meditation wine.

Florio

The history of the Florio winery has its roots back in 1833, when Vincenzo Florio, a man of vision and courage, decided to embark on an oenological journey that would indelibly mark the history of Sicilian wine. Situated in the splendid setting of Sicily, a land of contrasts and wild beauty, Florio is more than just a winery: it is a symbol of tradition and innovation that has conquered palates worldwide thanks to its Marsala.
Marsala, a fortified wine that bears the name of the city where it was born, is an authentic oenological gem that encapsulates the essence of Sicily. The gentle hills and mild climate of the island offer the ideal conditions for the cultivation of Grillo and Catarratto grapes, native varieties that give Marsala its unique and unmistakable character. The Florio winery stands out for a production that follows traditional methods, respecting the rhythms of nature and enhancing every nuance of the Sicilian terroir.
Every bottle of Florio Marsala is a symphony of aromas and flavors: from the warm and enveloping tones of dried fruit and vanilla to the spicy and balsamic notes that enhance its complexity. It is a wine that can adapt to multiple occasions, from solitary meditation to the conviviality of a meal with company, and it manages to amaze with its versatility.
Let yourself be captivated by the timeless charm of Florio wines and discover on Vino45 the authentic expression of Marsala: a journey between past and present, between land and sea, in a sip of pure Sicily.
Address:
Via Vincenzo Florio, 1 - 91025 Marsala (TP), Italy
Color: intense, bright amber gold, deep with coppery reflections that recall the long controlled oxidation and prolonged aging in wood.
Bouquet: layered aromatic depth, dominated by notes of toasted hazelnut, bitter almond, blonde tobacco, licorice root, and sweet spices such as cloves and nutmeg. There are also iodized and marine notes that emerge, typical of maturation just a few meters from the sea, along with hints of toasted cereals and noble wood, perfectly blended into a complex and austere olfactory profile.
Taste: dry and vertical, with a decisive and vibrant entry. The structure is solid yet agile, supported by a saline tension and a finely crafted tannic texture. The sip evolves with breadth and depth, leaving a long savory finish, with returns of spices, dried fruit, and an elegant bitterness.

THE WINE
The Marsala Vergine Riserva “VR3911” 2011 by Florio is made from Grillo grapes in over-ripening, harvested in September from the sandy vineyards of Marsala, kissed by the salty winds of the Mediterranean. Vinified without the addition of alcohol according to the traditional method, it has been aging since October 3, 2011 in a single 16SAG oak barrel from Allier, kept in the historic Cantina Garibaldi, 124 meters from the sea. After over 13 years of maturation, it offers a vibrant, fresh, and strongly savory profile, with a dry and lifted tannin. On the nose, it reveals an elegant balance between marine and citrus notes, with hints of dried fruit, spices, and blonde tobacco. Limited and numbered edition, perfect to pair with blue cheeses, bottarga, foie gras or as a meditation wine.
THE COMPANY
Founded in 1833 by Vincenzo Florio, the Cantine Florio in Marsala overlook the sea of western Sicily. Surrounded by the energy of the winds, flavored by the sea, the Cantine welcome, beautiful and silent, the oak woods where the Marsala Florio ages in an apparently motionless movement. Hundreds of barrels, vats, and caratelli, each with its own story, breathe the sea through the tuff floor, in the high naves where scents and architectures blend. In this wonderful place, where the Sicilian idea of beauty is distilled, the winemaker Tommaso Maggio, through the skillful use of space, time, and oxygen, creates Marsala in its multiple organoleptic forms.
