Schioppettino vine is an ancient native of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, whose origins date back to the Middle Ages. The Schioppettino, is also called Ribolla Nera and today it is the best known autochthonous black grape from Friuli together with Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso. Despite its millenary history, at the beginning of the 1970s the vine was almost extinct due to diseases, first Oidium and then Phylloxera.
