The Chardonnay 'Collezione Privata' by Isole e Olena is a soft, elegant white wine with incredible aging potential. It comes from vineyards in an ecosystem rich in biodiversity, ideal for healthy and lush plants. Human intervention in the vineyard is minimal. Manual harvesting, fermentation in steel, and subsequently long aging in barriques. The bouquet recalls aromas of citrus fruits like bergamot and lemon, ripe yellow-fleshed fruits like apple and pear, and notes of white flowers. On the palate, it is elegant and enveloping, with good freshness and salinity on the finish for an overall balance that makes it easy to drink. Its fresh and delicate notes of citrus, fresh fruit, and white flowers, well balanced by a subtle toasted vein, make it perfect to pair with sophisticated dinners featuring fish, shellfish, mollusks, seasonal vegetables, and fresh cheeses.

Isole e Olena

In the picturesque setting of the Tuscan hills, among the intense aromas of the vineyards and the song of cypresses touching the sky, stands the Isole e Olena winery, a true gem of the Chianti Classico. The history of this winery is one of an oenological renaissance, a symbol of the rebirth of Chianti, where tradition and innovation intertwine to create wines that embody the elegance and authenticity of the region.
The beating heart of Isole e Olena's production is the Chianti Classico region, a place where nature expresses itself through a mosaic of soils and microclimates, perfectly suited to the cultivation of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. Here, the meeting of respect for viticultural traditions and an innovative approach to winemaking gives rise to labels of extraordinary quality.
The production philosophy of Isole e Olena is based on a wise balance between traditional and modern techniques, allowing the best expression of the potential of the cultivated varieties. Sangiovese, the symbolic grape of Tuscany, finds one of its highest expressions here, producing wines with a decisive character and remarkable longevity. Alongside it, Cabernet Sauvignon provides structure and complexity, contributing to the creation of wines of great elegance and harmony.
Among the winery's gems, Cepparello stands out, a cult label for wine enthusiasts. This Supertuscan embodies the essence of Chianti Classico, with its enveloping aromas of ripe red fruits, spices, and a slight balsamic touch. On the palate, it reveals complexity and persistence, making it an ideal companion for the most special moments, capable of gracefully evolving over time.
We invite all wine lovers to discover the elegant creations of Isole e Olena on Vino45, a sensory journey through the gentle Tuscan hills, where every sip tells a story of passion, tradition, and innovation.

THE COMPANY

Isole e Olena represents one of the most important wine-producing realities of Chianti Classico, of which it is a faithful and wise interpreter. The winery is located within the municipality of Barberino Val d’Elsa, halfway between Florence and Siena, where in 1956 the De Marchi family, of Piedmontese origin, acquired this property whose name derives from the nearby locations of Isole and Olena. The year 1976 was a turning point when Paolo De Marchi, a young winemaker returning from an experience in Napa Valley, took the reins of the viticulture and oenology of the estate, starting to experiment with the planting of international varieties while simultaneously focusing on pure Sangiovese, which at the time was contrary to the popular “Chianti formula” that included the addition of other black and white grape varieties. Thus, in 1980, the ‘Cepparello’ was born, a label that has made history for the winery and the territory, among the symbols of the enological renaissance of Chianti. In 2022, the property was acquired by the French family group Epi.
The 56 hectares of vineyards owned by the Tuscan winery Isole e Olena are located at an altitude between 350 and 490 meters above sea level, on soils characterized by an abundant presence of clay, galestro, and sandstone. Alongside the indigenous varieties Sangiovese and Canaiolo, the estate cultivates international grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Chardonnay, and Viognier. Harvests are carried out by hand with careful selection of the bunches, and after fermentation, which takes place in steel tanks and oak barrels, the wines age predominantly in first or more passages barriques.
The wines of Isole e Olena are of sublime elegance and class, representing the highest territorial expressions, such as the ‘Cepparello’, Chianti Classico, and Vin Santo, or are pioneering in showcasing the potential vocation of the area towards international grape varieties, as seen in the ‘Collezione Privata’ line. Beyond the label in question, the bottles of Isole e Olena fully reflect the style and skill of their creator Paolo De Marchi.
