Cotarella

In the picturesque crossroads between Lazio and Umbria, where tradition meets innovation, the Cotarella winery comes to life. Born from the creative flair of a family of world-renowned oenologists, with Riccardo Cotarella at the helm, this wine reality has become a point of reference for those seeking elegant and modern wines, capable of captivating the most demanding palates internationally.
Immersed in the lush hilly landscapes of these two Italian regions, Cotarella has been able to capture the essence of the territory, producing wines that celebrate the IGP Umbria and Lazio denominations. The varieties of grapes cultivated, from Grechetto to Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, reflect a wise combination of local tradition and openness to the most appreciated international varieties. These grapes, nurtured with passion and respect for the environment, give rise to wines that stand out for their distinctive character and uncompromising quality.
Among the flagship labels of the winery, Montiano and Sodale stand out as authentic expressions of the Cotarella style. Montiano, with its complexity and aromatic depth, reveals itself as a wine of great charm and structure, while Sodale enchants with its elegance and softness, representing a perfect balance between tradition and modernity.
We invite all enthusiasts to discover the Cotarella labels on Vino45, a sensory journey through the hills of Lazio and Umbria, where every sip tells a story of passion, innovation, and respect for the land.

THE WINE
The 'Soente' of the Cotarella Cotarella family is a Lazio wine of great purity and freshness, born in the Tenuta Montiano and aged in steel for a few months. Tempting varietal notes of citrus, peach, exotic sensations, aromatic herbs, and floral hints reflect a medium-bodied structure that is fresh, tasty, and enveloping, with a persistent almond finish.
THE COMPANY
The bond between the Cotarella family and the world of wine originated in the 1960s when Antonio and Domenico Cotarella, winemakers in Monterubiaglio, a fraction of the municipality of Castel Viscardo in the province of Terni, established the first winery for their own wine production. The brothers Renzo and Riccardo Cotarella, both oenologists raised in a land with long winemaking traditions, motivated by their father Domenico's passion, founded the current “Falesco” in 1979, transforming what was a small family business into a successful winemaking company to be passed down to future generations.
It is here, on the border between Umbria and Lazio, that wines of undeniable charm are born, characterized by a contemporary style while also distinguished by a particular longevity. Wines that in just a few decades have become ambassadors of Italian winemaking around the world.
The company currently covers a cultivated area of about 280 hectares, to which another ninety hectares currently leased are added. In a hilly area characterized by volcanic soils, both native and international grape varieties are cultivated, so among the rows, one can find plants of aleatico, trebbiano, malvasia, verdicchio, sangiovese, and vermentino, as well as merlot, syrah, viognier, and cabernet. Grapes are grown in full respect of the environment and ecosystem, and in the winery, they are processed using the most modern and advanced oenological tools, always employed without ever distorting what the terroir and the season have managed to express in the fruit.
