Saint Emilion AOC Grand Cru 'Le Different' 2018 (750 ml.) Chateau de Ferrand

The Saint-Émilion Grand Cru from Château de Ferrand is an elegant and deeply expressive red wine, a true reflection of the noble Saint-Hippolyte terroir. The grapes are sourced from vineyards on limestone plateaus, with each parcel vinified separately to preserve the unique character of the site. The blend consists of 73% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon. Aged for 14–18 months in French oak barrels, the wine develops remarkable structure and complexity. The bouquet reveals ripe red fruits, sweet spices, herbal notes, and balsamic hints. On the palate, it is smooth, balanced, and velvety, with silky tannins and a lively freshness that extends into a long, persistent finish. A Grand Cru that blends tradition with finesse, and shows great aging potential.

Chateau de Ferrand

Nestled in the prestigious Saint-Émilion appellation, Château de Ferrand stands as one of Bordeaux's most storied and elegant estates. Founded in the early 18th century by Elie De Bétoulaud—a lawyer, poet, patron of the arts and close confidant to King Louis XIV—the château was envisioned as a tribute to the grandeur of Versailles. Its construction included ornate architecture, hidden tunnels, and vast grounds, all designed to mirror the refinement of royal life.

In 1978, a new chapter began with the acquisition by the Bich family, renowned for the iconic Bic brand. Following the baron's passing, the estate remained within the family and is now led by Pauline Bich Chandon-Moët and her husband Philippe Chandon-Moët, heirs to two of France's most illustrious lineages. Since 2010, the couple has driven a remarkable transformation: replanting based on detailed ampelographic studies, tailoring grape varieties to the unique terroir, introducing sustainable viticulture, and upgrading cellar facilities with precision-focused vinification tools.

Their vision was validated in 2012, when Château de Ferrand earned its status as a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé. Today, the estate spans 42 hectares, with 32 under vine planted with Merlot (70%), Cabernet Franc (29%), and Cabernet Sauvignon (1%)—each parcel cultivated with meticulous care and forward-thinking strategy.

Address:

Allée de Saint-Poly, Saint-Hippolyte, 33330 Saint-Émilion, France

Color: deep ruby red, with garnet reflections that begin to emerge at the edges, a sign of evolution in the bottle. The appearance is bright and compact, an indication of good concentration and maturity of the fruit.

Bouquet: elegant and moderately complex, with an opening on notes of ripe red fruits such as cherry and raspberry, followed by darker tones of plum and blackberry. Subsequently, nuances of sweet spices emerge – vanilla and cinnamon – accompanied by earthy scents and slight hints of blond tobacco and leather, an expression of its refinement in wood and the beginning of its tertiary phase.

Taste: body with good structure, supported by well-integrated tannins, soft and ripe. The attack is soft and enveloping, with a balanced progression between freshness and roundness. The finish is long and clean, with fruity returns and a subtle balsamic note that gives depth and persistence.
