The Saint-Émilion Grand Cru from Château de Ferrand is an elegant red wine of great depth, emblematic of the noble terroir of Saint-Hippolyte. The grapes come from vineyards located on limestone plateaus, and each parcel is vinified separately to enhance the characteristics of each microzone. The blend consists of 73% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine ages for 14-18 months in French oak barrels, developing structure and complexity. On the nose, it opens with aromas of ripe red fruits, sweet spices, herbal notes, and balsamic hints. The palate is rich, balanced, and velvety, with silky tannins and a freshness that accompanies a long and persistent finish. A Grand Cru that combines tradition and finesse, perfect for bottle aging.

Chateau de Ferrand

In the heart of the famous Saint-Émilion appellation, Château de Ferrand represents one of the most fascinating and historic realities of the Bordeaux landscape. Founded in the early 18th century by Elie De Bétoulaud, a brilliant lawyer, poet, and patron, as well as an intimate friend of the Sun King, the estate was established with the ambition of emulating the sumptuous atmosphere of the Palace of Versailles. A dream that took shape among refined architectures, underground galleries, and an expanse of land that still enchants today.
In 1978, the entry of the Bich family, famous for creating the Bic empire, marked a new era for Ferrand. After the baron's death, the property remained firmly in the hands of his family, today represented by Pauline Bich Chandon-Moët and her husband Philippe Chandon-Moët, heirs of two great names in French tradition. Since 2010, they have initiated an ambitious renewal plan: replanting the vineyards based on ampelographic studies, selecting the clones most suitable for the terroir, adopting sustainable viticultural practices, and expanding the infrastructure with custom vats for selected plots.
In 2012, thanks to this forward-looking vision, Château de Ferrand was awarded the title of Saint-Émilion Grand cru Classé. The property now extends over 42 hectares, 32 of which are planted with Merlot (70%), Cabernet Franc (29%), and Cabernet Sauvignon (1%), cultivated with artisanal care and innovative spirit.

Address:
Allée de Saint-Poly, Saint-Hippolyte, 33330 Saint-Émilion, France
Color: deep ruby red, with garnet reflections that begin to emerge at the edges, a sign of evolution in the bottle. The appearance is bright and compact, indicating good concentration and maturity of the fruit.
Bouquet: elegant and moderately complex, with an opening on notes of ripe red fruits like cherry and raspberry, followed by darker tones of plum and blackberry. Next, nuances of sweet spices – vanilla and cinnamon – emerge, accompanied by earthy scents and slight hints of blonde tobacco and leather, expressions of its aging in wood and the beginning of its tertiary phase.
Taste: a body of good structure, supported by well-integrated, soft, and mature tannins. The attack is soft and enveloping, with a balanced progression between freshness and roundness. The finish is long and clean, with fruity returns and a subtle balsamic note that adds depth and persistence.

THE ESTATE

The history of the Château de Ferrand winery dates back to the early 18th century, with the owner and founder being Elie De Bétoulaud, a lawyer, poet, and patron, a close friend of King Louis XIV. In an effort to recreate the atmosphere of the Palace of Versailles, he built and founded Chateau De Ferrand, consisting of various rooms, tunnels, and hectares of land; passed down through generations until 1978.
In that year, Baron Bich purchased the Château de Ferrand, which, despite his passing shortly after, remained in the family and is still owned today by Pauline Bich Chandon-Moët and her husband Philippe Chandon-Moët. Together they manage this Chateau with ambitious projects; indeed, since 2010, the Château de Ferrand has undergone significant renovations; the vineyard is being restructured and replanted following a thorough ampelographic study of the soils and an adaptation of the grape varieties to the terroir. The cultivation methods are being redesigned, as well as the winemaking buildings; the cellars are being modernized, and the vats multiplied and adapted to allow for the best management of the plots.
In 2012, the family's commitment bore fruit: Ferrand became a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé. Today, the estate covers a total of 42 hectares, of which 32 are planted under the Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé designation and classification, with the cultivated grape varieties being: 70% Merlot, 29% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon.
