Villa Gemma Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC Riserva is the icon of Masciarelli production, an expression of an ambitious project that began in 1984. It is made from 100% hand-picked Montepulciano grapes from a single vineyard with high planting density in the municipality of San Martino sulla Marrucina (400 m s.l.m.), on medium-textured clay soils. The vines trained in Guyot produce limited yields (80 q.li/ha), ensuring aromatic concentration and structure. The vinification takes place in stainless steel, followed by a long maturation in new French oak barriques and in bottle. The result is a red wine that is powerful, elegant, and long-lived, with explosive and evolving aromas ranging from ripe fruit to sweet spices. Perfect with red meats, game, aged cheeses or dark chocolate desserts.

Masciarelli Tenute Agricole

Masciarelli Tenute Agricole is synonymous with winemaking excellence in Abruzzo. Founded in 1981 by Gianni Masciarelli, a charismatic and visionary figure, the company revolutionized the way wine is understood in Abruzzo, bringing Montepulciano and Trebbiano d’Abruzzo to international stages. With over 60 vineyards distributed across the four provinces of Abruzzo, Masciarelli cultivates a deep bond with its land, enhancing its pedoclimatic characteristics to highlight the character of each individual grape variety.
Its seven lines – from Villa Gemma to the elegant Marina Cvetic – tell a story of Abruzzo made of hills, mountains, and sea breezes, where tradition, innovation, and sustainability coexist harmoniously. The beating heart of the company is San Martino sulla Marrucina (CH), but the Castle of Semivicoli, now a charming relais, represents the refined face of Abruzzo wine tourism.
Every Masciarelli bottle is a tribute to the biodiversity of the “Green Region of Europe” and today you can discover it also on Vino45, an exclusive selection of great Italian wines. For those seeking authenticity, elegance, and a story to drink.
Address:
Via Gamberale, 2 66010 San Martino sulla Marrucina (CH), Italy
Color: dense, compact, with a deep ruby red hue featuring garnet reflections that already betray a certain evolution. The texture is visible, with slow and dense arches in the glass, a sign of concentration and structure.
Bouquet: an immediate complexity emerges: intense notes of ripe plum, brandied cherry, and blackberry open up, followed by spicy hints of vanilla, cloves, and licorice. With oxygenation, nuances of bitter cocoa, blonde tobacco, leather, and light balsamic and metallic accents arrive, further expanding the aromatic profile.
Taste: powerful and enveloping, supported by a well-defined but perfectly integrated tannic structure. The entry is warm and firm, with a rich and meaty mid-palate, where dark fruit reappears accompanied by sweet spices and toasted touches. The lively acidity and final saltiness extend its progression, leaving the palate clean and persistent, with a noble and profound finish.
