The Etna Rosso by Tenute Mannino is a classic blend of Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio characterized by typical volcanic minerality. Grapes are harvested from vines aged 60-120 years located at the foothills of the volcano in Contrada Bragaseggi on the northern slope of Etna, at an altitude of 600 m.s.l.m.. It ages for 12 months in large French oak barrels. It is a wine with a brilliant ruby red color, an intense aroma with pleasant floral notes, pomegranate, and graphite. Elegant tannins and good juiciness unleash the full power and minerality of the volcanic terroir. It pairs well with red meats and game, important first courses, and aged cheeses.

Tenute Mannino

At the foot of Mount Etna, in the heart of the Catania Plain, lies the Tenuta del Gelso, a place where tradition meets vision, and where wine tells a centuries-old story. Since the early years of the 19th century, this manor house has been much more than a farm: it has been a true laboratory of winemaking innovation, led by the foresight of Baron Franz Mannino, who brought the family wines to Europe and North America, receiving accolades at prestigious world exhibitions.
During the grape harvest, the ancient wine cellar – one of the oldest in the area – came alive in a choral celebration that involved the entire community: children, friends, neighbors. It was an explosion of aromas, lights, and colors that celebrated the cycle of nature and the unbreakable bond with the land.
Today, carrying on the legacy of this noble story is Giorgio Mannino, the sixth generation of a family that has managed to combine ancient values with a modern entrepreneurial spirit. Following the impetus given by his father Giuseppe, a central figure in the revival of the Etna DOC denomination, the estate is now a dynamic, solid agricultural and winemaking reality, projected towards the future while remaining firmly anchored to its historical identity.
The wines of the Tenute Mannino of Plachi are born from a unique terroir, sculpted by the power of the volcano, an ideal Mediterranean climate, and a knowledge passed down with respect and innovation. The Tenuta del Gelso is not just a place of production: it is a crossroads of culture and history, whose salons have hosted figures of the caliber of Giovanni Verga and Ettore Majorana, witnessing the family’s patronage spirit.
Vino45 is proud to bring to its customers' tables the wines signed by Tenute Mannino, an authentic expression of a noble, generous, and contemporary Etna, where every glass is a journey through time and passion.

THE ESTATE

The estate, Tenuta del Gelso, has been an extraordinary and innovative wine laboratory since the early 1800s. From here, in the Piana di Catania, Baron Franz Mannino introduced his wine to Europe and North America, achieving prestigious recognition at various world exhibitions. During the harvest season, the palmento, one of the oldest in the area, represented the place for a true family celebration that involved all the inhabitants of the house: from joyful children to friends and neighbors who flocked to Tenuta del Gelso to immerse themselves in a riot of smells, lights, and colors until late into the night. Giuseppe Mannino revitalized the family business and the Etna Doc denomination, creating an active and dynamic entrepreneurial reality. Now in the sixth generation, it is Giorgio, the son, who leads a solid and established wine and agricultural business. A company that preserves ancient traditions but is also capable of looking to the future and staying ahead of the times. The parlors of the Villa still echo the conversations held by its inhabitants with Giovanni Verga or Ettore Majorana, tangible testimonies to the reputation of Tenute Mannino as a family of patrons.
