The Lagrein Riserva from Waldgries is a testament that a powerful body often conceals a delicate personality. It is produced from old vines over 20 years old in the Furggl area near Ora, where the grapes accumulate structure and vigor. One-third is vinified in large wooden barrels and two-thirds in barriques for 12 months. A particularity: 10% of the grapes is left to ferment with its own stems to acquire vigor and tannins. The single-varietal presents itself in the glass with a purplish-red hue and a black heart, unfolding an inviting aromatic play of chocolate, plum, and licorice. The palate is enveloped by its compact structure, enchanted by the refreshing acidity, and seduced by its crunchy Lagrein aromas. The Lagrein Riserva pairs well with equally crunchy dishes such as braised or grilled red meat, game, and spicy hard cheeses.

Waldgries

In the picturesque Alto Adige landscape, among the sunny slopes of Santa Maddalena, the story of Waldgries comes to life, a winery that has its roots in 1930. It was then that Christian Plattner's grandfather, the current custodian of the estate, purchased the property and began exporting his wines to Switzerland, marking the first chapter of a family tradition destined to last over time.
In the following years, it was Christian's father who carried on the family legacy, standing out for his pioneering vision: he began bottling wine at a time when this practice was far from common in the area. A courageous move, which today proves to be the prelude to the innovative attitude that continues to inspire the winery.
Today, with passion and talent, Christian Plattner leads Waldgries, combining respect for his origins with a modern outlook on winemaking. His wines are born from vineyards located on glacial soils, rich in porphyry, which give each bottle a strong identity, elegant structure, and unmistakable body. His interpretations of Lagrein and Schiava are true masterpieces of mountain viticulture, capable of expressing the authentic character of the Alto Adige territory.
Waldgries is now a reference point for those seeking high-altitude wines that tell, with every sip, the bond between land, tradition, and personal vision.
Vino45 is proud to offer its customers the labels signed by Waldgries: a sensory journey through the history of a family, the strength of a territory, and the refinement of a winemaker who has turned passion into excellence.

THE COMPANY

The story of Waldgries, represented by the figure of Christian Plattner, begins back in 1930 when Christian's grandfather bought the estate and started exporting the wines he produced to Switzerland. Then came the management of the winery by his father, who engaged in a pioneering bottling activity, a practice still not widespread in the Santa Maddalena area. From these solid family foundations, it is now Christian who carries on the name and reputation of the winery, with foresight and winemaking talent while always looking back at the roots that have shaped him. Waldgries vinifies expressions of Lagrein and Schiava with rich structure and body due, in addition to impeccable work in the cellar, to the nature of its soils, which are of glacial origin and rich in porphyry. Waldgries is undoubtedly a reference point for mountain viticulture, which owes its success to the talent of the winemaker who manages it, strong in its historical family roots.
