The Santa Maddalena 'Antheos' from Waldgries is a wine with multiple facets thanks to the various types of Schiava grapes used. In 2009, Christian planted a mixed cut of historic vines, thereby giving new life to ancient grape varieties dating back to the time of his great-grandparents. This exclusive wine is rich in history and tradition. The different harvested grapes are fermented together, which gives the wine strength and great expressiveness. It is vinified in large wooden barrels. One particularity: 20% of the grapes are left to ferment with their stems to gain vigor and tannins. Aromas of Mon Chérie cherries and ripe red berry fruits, elegant aromatic notes. Full-bodied, with refined and persistent spicy notes, soft tannins that blend with the elegant fruity finish. It pairs well with Mediterranean appetizers, white meats, and game.

Waldgries

In the picturesque Alto Adige landscape, among the sunny slopes of Santa Maddalena, the story of Waldgries comes to life, a winery that has its roots in 1930. It was then that Christian Plattner's grandfather, the current custodian of the estate, purchased the property and began exporting his wines to Switzerland, marking the first chapter of a family tradition destined to last over time.
In the following years, it was Christian's father who carried on the family legacy, standing out for his pioneering vision: he began bottling wine at a time when this practice was far from common in the area. A courageous move, which today proves to be the prelude to the innovative attitude that continues to inspire the winery.
Today, with passion and talent, Christian Plattner leads Waldgries, combining respect for his origins with a modern outlook on winemaking. His wines are born from vineyards located on glacial soils, rich in porphyry, which give each bottle a strong identity, elegant structure, and unmistakable body. His interpretations of Lagrein and Schiava are true masterpieces of mountain viticulture, capable of expressing the authentic character of the Alto Adige territory.
Waldgries is now a reference point for those seeking high-altitude wines that tell, with every sip, the bond between land, tradition, and personal vision.
Vino45 is proud to offer its customers the labels signed by Waldgries: a sensory journey through the history of a family, the strength of a territory, and the refinement of a winemaker who has turned passion into excellence.

THE WINE
The Santa Maddalena 'Antheos' by Waldgries is a wine with multiple facets thanks to the various types of Schiava grapes used. In 2009, Christian planted a mixed selection of historic vines, thus giving new life to ancient grape varieties dating back to the time of his great-grandparents. This exclusive wine is rich in history and tradition. The different grapes harvested are fermented together, which gives the wine strength and great expressiveness. It is vinified in large wooden barrels. One particularity: 20% of the grapes is left to ferment with their stems to gain vigor and tannins. Notes of Mon Chérie cherry and ripe red berry fruits, elegant aromatic notes. Full-bodied, with refined and persistent spicy notes, soft tannins that blend with the elegant fruity finish. To be paired with Mediterranean appetizers, white meats, and game.
THE COMPANY

The story of Waldgries, represented by the figure of Christian Plattner, begins back in 1930 when Christian's grandfather purchased the estate and inaugurated an export to Switzerland of the wines he produced. The winery was then managed by his father, who engaged in a pioneering bottling activity, a practice that was still not widespread in the Santa Maddalena area. From these solid family foundations, it is now Christian who carries on the name and fame of the winery, with foresight and winemaking talent while always looking back at the roots that shaped him. Waldgries vinifies expressions of Lagrein and Schiava of rich structure and body due, in addition to the impeccable work in the cellar, to the nature of its soils, of glacial origin and rich in porphyry. Waldgries is certainly a reference point for mountain viticulture, which owes its success to the talent of the winemaker who manages it, strong in its historical family roots.
