Domenico Clerico

In the heart of the Langhe, an enchanting region where the hills seem to dance under the Piedmontese sky, stands the Domenico Clerico winery, one of the brightest gems in the Italian wine landscape. Its history is deeply intertwined with the modern evolution of Barolo, a wine that has managed to redefine itself, imprinting its name in the firmament of great Italian reds.
Domenico Clerico was a visionary pioneer, capable of looking beyond the horizon, embracing a modernist approach that revolutionized the way of conceiving and producing Barolo. His creations are powerful, concentrated, and endowed with extraordinary longevity, characteristics that fully reflect his production philosophy. The plots of Nebbiolo, the noble grape variety par excellence of the Langhe, intertwine with those of Dolcetto, giving life to wines that tell stories of passion, land, and innovation.
Among the most celebrated labels of Clerico, the Barolo Ciabot Mentin stands out for its complexity and aromatic depth. This wine is a sensory journey that unfolds through notes of ripe fruit, spices, and hints of wet earth, evolving over time with grace and character. Each sip is a tribute to the mastery of a man who managed to interpret the Langhe terroir with boldness and respect, creating a dialogue between tradition and modernity.
Let yourself be captivated by the wines of Domenico Clerico, available on Vino45, and immerse yourself in an experience that celebrates the history and innovation of Barolo, a wine narrative that never ceases to fascinate.

THE WINE
The Barolo from the Municipality of Monforte d'Alba by Domenico Clerico is made from vines planted between 1968 and 2005, from the best plots of the estate in the municipality of Monforte d’Alba. It rests for two years, partly in French oak barriques and partly in 50 hl Slavonian oak barrels. Finally, the blend is assembled, resulting in a wine of extreme elegance, surprising in its taste-olfactory precision and remarkable for its depth and finish.
THE COMPANY
Around the mid-1970s, in 1976 to be exact, Domenico Clerico, at his father's request, chose to take the reins of the family farm, which at the time covered an area of about five hectares and produced grapes to be sold to the nearby cooperative winery. However, seeing the meager profits and convinced of the enormous potential of the lands of the Langhe, Domenico, assisted by his wife Giuliana in managing the estate, decided to start vinifying his own grapes to produce quality wines.
With love and dedication, he began to care for his vines, trying to interpret their every need throughout the year. At the same time, Domenico acquired new well-positioned vineyard plots, in the heart of Bussia, in the Ginestra cru and in the Mosconi cru, choosing lands with optimal microclimatic characteristics.
Today, the winery of Domenico Clerico has 21 hectares of vineyards, located in some of the best sub-zones of Barolo in Monforte d’Alba and Serralunga d’Alba. At an altitude ranging from 150 to 450 meters above sea level, carefully managing his rows with the utmost respect for the environment, nature, biodiversity, and the ecosystem, he harvests pure and precious grapes, which translate into labels with a thousand facets, olfactively seductive and gustatively complex.
This is how hard work, sweat, and determination have given rise to what can currently be considered a vital and dynamic winemaking reality, undoubtedly among the most representative wineries of Monforte d’Alba. The company of Domenico Clerico excellently interprets particularly the nebbiolo grape, producing wines that are overwhelming in olfactory sensations, noble on the palate, and endless in persistence. From Barolo “Pajana” to Barolo “Aeroplanservaj,” from Barolo “Ciabot Mentin” to Barolo “Percristina,” not to mention the Barbera and Dolcetto: simply extraordinary wines.
