The Conero Riserva DOCG “Cumaro” by Umani Ronchi is the emblem of the Marche territory and is born from a careful selection of Montepulciano grapes in south-facing vineyards, on clay and sandstone soils. After the manual harvest at the end of October, the grapes undergo a fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature, followed by a long maceration to extract structure and aromas. The wine ages for 12 months in French oak barrels and at least 6 months in the bottle, developing an intense bouquet of ripe red fruits, spicy notes, and an elegant toasted finish. On the palate, it is full-bodied, with silky tannins and excellent mineral persistence, thanks to the breezy microclimate of Conero. Perfect to pair with red meats, game, and aged cheeses, “Cumaro” is the ideal choice for those seeking power, balance, and the authentic expression of a great Italian red.

THE WINE
The 'Cumaro' by Umani Ronchi is a tribute to Monte Conero, from the Greek 'komaros', meaning strawberry tree, an evergreen shrub widely found in its woods. This pure Montepulciano Riserva is an intense and complex red wine, one of the most important wines in the history of the Umani Ronchi winery and one of the pioneers of fine wines in the Conero area. It has a mature fruit profile of plum, currant, and sour cherry on a spicy background of black pepper, vanilla, and tobacco. It presents itself as smooth and enveloping on the palate, with well-rounded tannins and a pleasant cocoa finish.
THE COMPANY
The Umani Ronchi winery is one of the historic, large, and most well-known production realities in the Marche region. Its strength and the secret of its success lie in its continuous ability to renew itself and the courage to challenge itself, constantly improving production while staying updated on the latest trends, keeping its feet firmly planted in both company traditions and those of the territory. It was founded in 1957 by Gino Umani Ronchi in Cupramontana, in the heart of Verdicchio production, and today boasts extensive properties not only in the Castelli di Jesi area but also in Conero and Abruzzo. For over 50 years, it has been managed by the Bianchi Bernetti family, who, thanks to the efforts of Massimo and then his son Michele, have been able to enhance and promote the labels produced worldwide.
The Umani Ronchi winery has successfully undergone a significant transformation, converting hundreds of hectares of vineyards to organic farming, thanks to the expertise of agronomist Luigi Piersanti. The renewal and modernization have involved the entire production, capable of merging the typical traits of the territory, the varietal character of the grapes, and a modern and elegant style. Each production site is equipped with its own cellar, according to the principle of ‘three cellars for three territories’: Osimo, where the great reds are born; Castelbellino, cradle of Verdicchio; and Montipagano, the Abruzzese location.
The name of Umani Ronchi has always been associated with the excellence of two renowned oenological specialties: Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi and Rosso Conero, based on Montepulciano. In recent years, Abruzzo wines have also been produced from native varieties that have quickly gained great success. The identification and enhancement of highly suitable vineyards have allowed the Bianchi Bernetti family to increasingly focus on quality and territorial typicities. After over half a century of history, this winery has managed to maintain a reference role in the regional wine scene.
