The Lagrein Riserva 'Porphyr' from Terlan is born from a selection of the best grapes from the most suitable plots of the estate. Three selected vineyards, with vines that are nearly a century old and therefore provide very concentrated grapes rich in extracts, are the cradle of this selection of Lagrein. Fermented entirely in barrique for 18 months, the Lagrein Porphyr, named after the predominant stone of the soils where it grows, expresses a varied and intense bouquet that enhances the compact and unmistakable flavor that delights the palate.

THE WINE

Vinified entirely in barrique for 18 months, the Lagrein Porphyr, named after the predominant stone of the soils in which it grows, expresses a varied and intense bouquet that enhances the compact and unmistakable flavor that delights the palate.
THE COMPANY
A winery that for decades has represented the best that South Tyrol can express in terms of finesse and longevity. Founded in 1893 in the homonymous locality not far from Merano, the Terlano winery is one of the most advanced cooperatives of producers not only in all of South Tyrol but also in the entire Italian Peninsula, to the point that it can be considered a symbol of the perfect mechanism of cooperation in the wine sector. Its 143 members cultivate a total of 165 hectares of vineyards, corresponding to an annual production that far exceeds one million bottles. Jaw-dropping numbers that go hand in hand with the best wines of the region, both white and red, capable of consistently pleasing both the public and critics alike. Thus, Antonio Galloni of Wine Advocate in 2011 stated: “The best wines from Alto Adige that I have tasted this year come from the Cantina Terlano. In short, these are benchmark wines. Wines that should not be missing from any important cellar.” A path, that of absolute quality, that the members of the Cantina di Terlano have confidently pursued over the decades, earning them fame and recognition in the Italian and international wine markets. And so here are pinot bianco, chardonnay, pinot grigio, müller thurgau, gewürztraminer, and sauvignon blanc, as well as lagrein, schiava, pinot noir, and torilan: grape varieties that are exalted in their essence when crafted into traditional labels, and that become renowned names when interpreted in the “selected labels”: Terlaner, Winkl, Kreuth, Vorberg, Gries, Siebeneich, Siemegg, Monticol, Quarz, Nova Domus, Lunare, Porphyr. In short, names that over the years have rightfully earned prestige and international recognition, transforming the Terlano winery into a true institution not only of Alto Adige wine but of the entire Italian wine scene.
