The Syrah ‘Gargantua Oregon’ 2015 by Bergström comes from a blend of four vineyards in the Willamette, Umpqua and Rogue Valleys in Oregon. A pure Syrah with fruity, herbal and peppery character, aged 12–18 months in large barrels then 12 months in French oak barriques. The bouquet shows blackberry, cherry, violet, chocolate and graphite. The palate is elegant, fleshy and mineral, with solid structure and long persistence. Notes of ripe red fruits, violet and balsamic spices make it ideal with game, grilled red meats and aged cheeses. A long-aging wine, only 1,056 bottlesproduced, a rare West Coast Syrah.

THE COMPANY
In the heart of Oregon lies the family-run winery Bergström Wines founded by John and Karen Bergström. The childhood spent among Swedish nature instilled in John Bergstrom a love and dedication for agriculture, which was solidified in 1999 with the start of the business. The ideal territory for realizing this dream is that of the Willamette Valley, now considered one of the most suitable areas in the state of Oregon for Pinot Noir production. The soils in this area are clayey and rest on a volcanic base. The climate, influenced by the Pacific Ocean, plays an equally important role, providing afternoon breezes that funnel into the valley and reach the vineyards, creating a favorable temperature range. Bergström spans an area of 34 hectares, divided into 5 different vineyards from which the following 5 wines are produced from each individual plot: The Bergström Vineyard, Silice Vineyard, Winery Block / Shea Vineyard, Gragory Ranch, and Le Pré du Col. Completing the range is the Pinot Noir Cumberland Reserve, with which the winery aims to synthesize the expression of all 5 vineyards. The wines are produced with extreme care and passion, using exclusively artisanal methods and with the assistance of a reliable and devoted staff. All vineyards are cultivated according to biodynamic farming methods, preferring organic products and avoiding the use of chemicals and fertilizers, in order to make the most of what nature has to offer.
