Michele Chiarlo

Set in the majestic region of Piedmont, the winery Michele Chiarlo represents a perfect blend of classic elegance and a modern approach to winemaking. Founded with the aim of enhancing the characteristics of the cru of Barolo and other local denominations, this winery is a true tribute to the Piedmontese territory.
The history of Michele Chiarlo intertwines with that of the hills of Langhe, Monferrato, and Gavi, places where each vine tells an ancient story of hard work and passion. Here, the Nebbiolo, Barbera, and Moscato grapes find their ideal habitat, growing lushly and giving rise to wines that are true ambassadors of Piedmontese winemaking tradition. The Barolo Cerequio is the flagship of Chiarlo's production, a wine that represents a unique sensory experience, with its imposing structure and complex aromas that evoke notes of cherry, spices, and a hint of licorice.
The winery's production philosophy is based on an almost reverential respect for the territory and its traditions, but it does not shy away from a forward-looking perspective, adopting modern techniques that enhance the quality and expressiveness of the wines. Each bottle of Michele Chiarlo is a journey into the scents and flavors of Piedmont, an invitation to discover the richness of a generous land and to be captivated by its authenticity.
Don't miss the opportunity to discover on Vino45 the excellences signed by Michele Chiarlo: a universe of elegance and tradition waiting to be explored and savored in every sip.

THE WINE
The 'Vigna Veja' Barbera d’Asti Superiore Nizza Riserva is one of the jewels of Michele Chiarlo. It comes from the oldest vineyards of the 'La Court' vineyard and is produced in only 3000 bottles, whose class lies in the great balance of aromas offered to the nose. It matures for two years in oak barrels and two years in glass. A bottle truly for a few enthusiasts, whose label is designed by Ugo Nespolo, a great artist representative of Pop Art. Produced only in exceptional vintages in a limited number of bottles.
The company Michele Chiarlo was founded in 1956 by Michele Chiarlo in Calamandrana, in the heart of the Asti region, producing the first vintage of Barolo in 1958. In the following years, the winery, strictly family-run, developed significantly, thanks to important acquisitions made in the best areas of Langhe, securing, in 1987 and 1989, land in Cerequio and Cannubi. Today, the company spans about 110 hectares of vineyards, of which 60 are owned and the remaining 50 are under long-term rental contracts, resulting in just over a million bottles. The management is entrusted to Michele's sons, Alberto and Stefano: the former is responsible for commercial development, while the latter is the winemaker. Only indigenous grapes are cultivated in the vineyards, focusing on nebbiolo, barbera, cortese, and moscato; in the winery, the philosophy aims to enhance the characteristics that distinguish the grape variety contextualized in a specific terroir, striving for red wines to use wood moderately, aging the various crus according to traditional methods, in large barrels or tonneaux. A fundamental objective pursued by Michele Chiarlo is sustainability, a concept dear to the family since the 1990s, when the first applications of integrated pest management, selective pesticides, and further natural practices began. A virtuous path that renews over time: in 2007, in fact, a project recognized by the Ministry of the Environment was started, aiming for total sustainability of the supply chain, all the way to the consumers' table. The Chiarlo are dynamic people, attentive to modern times, as evidenced by the ambitious hospitality project inaugurated with the “Palais Cerequio,” an accommodation facility ideal for those who want to take a few days of rest in a world where wine is the absolute protagonist. A total of about twenty excellent labels, from Barolo to Barbaresco, from Gavi to Barbera: bottles that, sip after sip and harvest after harvest, confirm themselves in the Olympus of the best Italian wines.
