Michele Chiarlo

Nestled in the majestic region of Piedmont, the Michele Chiarlo winery represents a perfect fusion of classic elegance and a modern approach to winemaking. Founded with the intent to enhance the peculiarities of the cru of Barolo and other local denominations, this winery is a true homage to the Piedmontese territory.
The history of Michele Chiarlo intertwines with that of the hills of Langhe, Monferrato, and Gavi, places where each vine tells an ancient story of effort and passion. Here, the Nebbiolo, Barbera, and Moscato grapes find their ideal habitat, growing lush and giving life to wines that are true ambassadors of Piedmontese winemaking tradition. The Barolo Cerequio is the flagship of Chiarlo's production, a wine that represents a unique sensory experience, with its imposing structure and complex aromas evoking notes of cherry, spices, and a hint of licorice.
The winery's production philosophy is based on an almost reverential respect for the territory and its traditions, while not forgoing a look towards the future, adopting modern techniques that enhance the quality and expressiveness of the wines. Each bottle of Michele Chiarlo is a journey into the aromas and flavors of Piedmont, an invitation to discover the richness of a generous land and to be captivated by its authenticity.
Don't miss the opportunity to discover on Vino45 the excellences signed by Michele Chiarlo: a universe of elegance and tradition waiting to be explored and savored in every sip.

THE WINE
The Nizza Riserva 'La Court' by Michele Chiarlo is a Barbera d'Asti that originates from one of the most important crus in the entire Monferrato. This Barbera takes on unique characteristics that combine structure, longevity, and elegance, giving rise to a dance of aromas and flavors that captivates from the very first moments. The grapes, carefully selected, mature in both barrique and large barrels for one year. A red wine with a material and full-bodied personality, with which Michele Chiarlo continues its path of excellence.
The company Michele Chiarlo was founded in 1956 by Michele Chiarlo in Calamandrana, in the heart of the Asti region, producing its first vintage of Barolo in 1958. In the following years, the winery, strictly family-run, grew significantly, thanks to important purchases made in the best areas of the Langhe, acquiring land in Cerequio and Cannubi in 1987 and 1989. Today, the company covers approximately 110 hectares of vineyards, of which 60 are owned and the remaining 50 with long-term lease contracts, producing just over a million bottles. The management is entrusted to Michele's sons, Alberto and Stefano: the former handles commercial development, while the latter is the winemaker. In the vineyards, only indigenous grapes are cultivated, focusing on nebbiolo, barbera, cortese, and moscato; in the winery, the philosophy aims to enhance the characteristics that distinguish the grape variety contextualized in a specific terroir, trying to use wood moderately for red wines, aging the various crus according to traditional methods, in large barrels or tonneaux. A fundamental goal pursued by Michele Chiarlo is sustainability, a concept dear to the family since the 1990s, when the first applications of integrated pest management, selective pesticides, and other natural practices began. A virtuous path that renews over time: in 2007, a project recognized by the Ministry of the Environment was initiated, aiming for total sustainability of the supply chain, all the way to consumers' tables. The Chiarlo are dynamic people, attentive to modern times, as evidenced by the ambitious hospitality project inaugurated with the “Palais Cerequio,” an ideal accommodation for those who want to treat themselves to a few days of rest in a world where wine is the absolute protagonist. A total of about twenty excellent labels, from Barolo to Barbaresco, from Gavi to Barbera: bottles that, sip after sip and harvest after harvest, confirm their place among the best Italian wines.
