The 2014 for 'Cristal' by Louis Roederer was a bright year, in which fruit and finesse reached their maximum splendor. A year of full sunshine, resulting from a generous and perfectly ripe harvest, Cristal 2014 assumes its complete identity. Delicate and increasingly eco-friendly sustainable cultivation techniques have brought about the utmost balance between maturity and freshness. With its rich and fleshy character and exceptional ripeness, Cristal 2014 reveals the intrinsic purity of its aromas with astonishing ease. The power of the fruit merges into a chalky, consistent, and saline freshness, offering an extremely delicate persistence. It is unabashedly exuberant, with an expressiveness that over time will reveal its true structure.

THE WINE

The most famous wine of our Maison was created in 1876 to satisfy the discerning taste of Tsar Alexander II. The emperor asks Louis Roederer to reserve for him every year the best cuvée of the Maison, which he particularly appreciates. To accentuate the uniqueness of this exceptional champagne, a flat-bottomed crystal bottle will be specially created. It will bear the name of this precious material, which enhances its transparency and brightness.
Made only in "great years," when the maturity of the Chardonnay (about 40%) and Pinot Noir (about 60%) that compose it is perfect, Cristal ages in the cellar for 6 years and rests for 8 months after disgorgement.
Of remarkable balance, Cristal is a linear champagne, with an absolutely unique persistence in the mouth. The velvety texture reveals aromas of fruits supported by a mineral power from which notes of white fruits and citrus emerge. Cristal is a wine that ages wonderfully. It can be stored for more than twenty years without losing any of its freshness and character.
THE VINEYARD

Our Champagne wines draw their virtues from the land. But it is the skilled work of our winegrowers and oenologists, at every stage of their creation, that will make them prestigious champagnes. Winegrower-composers, always in search of perfection, the men who work in the production of Louis Roederer champagnes know how to make this land fruitful, particularly exposed to the whims of the climate, practicing tailored viticulture, suited to the profile of each plot. Custodians of a centuries-old tradition, our winemakers seek the perfect maturity of the grapes while respecting the soil and biodiversity. The increasingly significant space given to the biodynamic principles allows them to further enrich the palette of flavors at their disposal.
THE MAISON

Heir to the Maison de Champagne in 1833, an entrepreneur and aesthete, Louis Roederer makes the far-sighted decision to enrich the vineyard to control all phases of the wine production and creates a style, a spirit, and a completely original taste. In the mid-19th century, with the purchase of selectively chosen vineyards with instinct and eclectic spirit on the lands of the Grands Crus de Champagne, Louis Roederer goes against the grain of the practices of the time.
While others buy grapes, Louis Roederer cares for the vineyard, deciphers the character of each parcel, and methodically acquires the best ones. Convinced that the essence of a great wine lies in the land, a lover of tradition and looking towards the future, Louis Roederer charts an exceptional destiny for the House that will then bear his name. His successor, Louis Roederer II, is driven by the same patient vision of champagne, the same heritage-based conception of the vineyard estate, the same enterprise.
