Muller Thurgau

Müller Thurgau is a grape variety obtained in 1882 from the Swiss Hermann Müller originating in Turgau, hence the name, by crossing two varieties: the Rhine Riesling and the Silvaner. Recent studies on its DNA actually seem to exclude kinship with the Silvaner, favoring Chasselas, a vine cultivated in France but of Swiss origin used for the production of table grapes. The bunch is small, cylindrical, pyramidal, winged, medium compact. The berries are medium, ellipsoidal, with a thin yellow-greenish skin. The sprouting, flowering and veraison periods are medium. Due to its vegetative and oenological characteristics, the Muller-Turgau is a vine that lends itself well to cultivation in cold climates and can be vinified even in years of poor insolation. For these reasons it is very common in Germany and in Trentino Alto Adige.
