THE WINE

THE COMPANY

Tua Rita is a winery located in Val di Cornia and enjoys international fame for the excellent quality of its wines, particularly some of its labels, such as Merlot Redigaffi. Entrepreneur Rita Tua and her husband Virgilio Bisti purchased the land in 1984 with the intention of moving to a place where they could live in contact with nature, cultivating their land. Thanks to their unbridled passion for wine, the original 2 hectares of vineyard grew to the current 30. Simply named by reversing the owner’s name and surname, the winery Tua Rita represents one of the first successful Italian realities developed on the "vin de garage" model, where all production processes are conducted completely autonomously and artisanally: small productions obtained with rigor, competence, and seriousness.
The vine training system of Tua Rita alternates between simple spur cordon and double spur cordon. The defense of the vines follows organic farming methods with the goal of helping the plants defend themselves, ensuring first and foremost the health of the environment and the soils. The use of plant protection products is indeed abolished. The soil where the vines grow is mainly composed of skeleton, clay, silt, and sand and is rich in microelements. The territorial characteristics of the Metalliferous Hills give Tua Rita wines original iron notes and a beautiful salty character.
In the winery, where the facilities have been recently renovated, interventions are limited and minimally invasive. The selected grapes undergo soft pressing and are then left to ferment in wooden vats. After fermentation, the wine is transferred by gravity into the barriques located below the winemaking facilities. Here, aging continues for at least 18 months. This produces wines where quality and tradition meet, artisan expressions that are uncompromising of the generous Maremma territory.
