The Verdicchio di Matelica 'Oppano' (literally "you make me shadow") by Sergio Marani is made from Verdicchio grapes sourced from a vineyard facing north and towards the sea. The old vines and a perfect microclimate create a structure that strongly supports this expression of Verdicchio di Matelica. After the harvest and pressing, the must is fermented in large tonneaux that have been used since the 1950s and are therefore equipped with a layer of tartrates that prevent oxidation of the wine and contact with the wood. Notes of dried fruit and almond with a fine spiciness of cardamom and green tea infusion. Good minerality, medium body, and great flavor intensity. A broad and delicate wine.

THE WINE
The Verdicchio di Matelica 'Oppano' (literally "you make me shade") by Sergio Marani is made with Verdicchio grapes from a vineyard facing north and towards the sea. The old vines and a perfect microclimate create a framework that strongly supports this expression of Verdicchio di Matelica. After harvesting and crushing, the must is vinified in large tonneaux used since the 1950s, featuring a layer of tartrates that prevent oxidation of the wine and contact with wood. Notes of dried fruit and almond with a fine spice of cardamom and green tea infusion. Good minerality, medium body, and great taste intensity. A broad and delicate wine.
THE COMPANY
The winery Marani is a small family-run business located in Matelica, in the heart of the Alta Vallesina, the cradle of Verdicchio di Matelica. The vineyard covers about 8 hectares and is exclusively cultivated with Verdicchio, the great white grape that has helped to make the Marche region known in the national and international wine scene. The location on a medium hill, at an altitude of 400 meters above sea level, favors significant temperature excursions essential for the aromatic profile and fixed acidity of the wines; cover crops, dry pruning, and thinning characterize the cultivation of the vine, which is based on principles of high quality and respect for the environment. The harvest, carried out manually and as quickly as possible, is the most delicate moment of the entire winemaking process, followed by the aging of the wines in oak barrels from the woods surrounding the winery.
