The Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling ‘Alte Reben’ by S.A. Prüm from the Central Mosel comes from the oldest vineyard of the estate, featuring ungrafted vines aged 80-100 years, which provide a huge variety of aromas. Pure Riesling obtained from the selection of the ripest and best bunches, hand-harvested at the end of October. Aging for 24 months in used oak barriques. Intense and refined bouquet, with notes of yellow fruit and citrus, fresh floral hints, and pleasant mineral and hydrocarbon scents. On the palate, it is fine and persistent, with notes of yellow fruits and citrus, floral notes of white flowers followed by pronounced minerality and sapidity, classic hydrocarbon notes, and significant, well-balanced acidity. Elegant and balanced. Total production 2,500 bt/year.

THE ESTATE

Directly on the banks of the Mosel in a fairytale landscape characterized by dark slate hills towering above the river, the winery S.A. Prum is an ambassador of a winemaking tradition that has lasted for generations.
The pursuit of the best possible quality is the mantra of this historic company, a founding member of the VDP association, Verband Deutsches Praedikats, which groups the 200 most virtuous producers in Germany.
The 22 hectares owned by the winery are mostly on their own roots and divided among high-quality vineyards; the management of the vineyard is obviously aimed at enhancing the vineyard and territory with a predominantly manual approach and harvests carried out at the perfect stage of ripeness.
Even the winemaking is rigorously minimalist and tied to tradition, with fermentations occurring in steel using natural yeasts to enhance the richness and elegance of the raw material, giving rise to incredibly deep and long-lived wines of international fame. These wines are characterized by significant acidity and pronounced minerality derived from the slate-rich soil. Since July 1, 2017, Saskia Prum has been the first female guide of such a prestigious winery.
