THE ESTATE

Chateau d'Esclans is a legendary name for all Rosé enthusiasts. It is a historic domaine that produces excellent wines in the heart of the beautiful Provence region. The estate is located in an extraordinary place, about twenty kilometers northwest of Fréjus, a small village with ancient Roman origins. In these lands, viticulture has ancient origins. In 600 B.C., the Phoceans founded the city of Marseille, bringing the Greek culture of vine cultivation to the new lands, which was later resumed and expanded under Roman domination. Even in the time of the Gauls, the site where the domaine now stands served as a lookout tower to monitor the entire Gulf of Frejus. The foundations of the current building's cellars rest on the ancient original structures and symbolize the deep connection to the traditions of the area.
Château d’Esclans represents one of the best excellences of Southern France and is famous for its extraordinary production of high-end Rosé. The estate covers a total area of 267 hectares, of which 74 are dedicated to vineyards. The most cultivated varieties are the classic ones of Provence: Grenache, Vermentino, Cinsault, Mourvèdre, Syrah, Tibouren, and the ubiquitous Merlot. The richness of the domaine lies in a heritage of old Grenache vines over 90 years old, which produce grapes of the highest quality, with particularly intense and elegant aromas. To maintain the integrity of the grapes, the harvest takes place only in the early hours of the morning, with careful selection of the clusters in the vineyard.
The grapes are again selected upon arrival at the winery, using a manual and optical sorting table to ensure that only the perfect clusters proceed to the production process. Before vinification, the grapes are destemmed. The grapes undergo a cold maceration at a temperature of 8 °C before being very gently pressed to extract only the free-run juice. For the production of Rosé, a short contact in the press with the skins is used to obtain wines with a very pale pink color and subtle, fresh, and elegant aromas. The labels of Château d’Esclans represent an essential model for anyone in the world who wants to produce rosés.
