The Friuli Isonzo DOC Merlot “Voos dai Ciamps” 2018 by Vie di Romans is a pure Merlot expressing the elegance of Mariano del Friuli. Grapes from 12-year-old vineyards grow on deep soils with a superficial clay layer and a sandy-loam calcareous subsoil rich in dolomite and minerals. After careful vinification and ageing for 19 months in barrique, 8 in steel and 11 in bottle, it offers aromas of ripe cherry, plum, sweet herbs, tobacco, plus floral and mineral notes. The palate is velvety, with fine tannins, balanced freshness and a persistent finish recalling lavender, spices and citrus peel. Perfect with red meats, game and aged cheeses.
