The winemaking follows traditional methods: fermentation in stainless steel with extended skin contact, followed by aging in large Slavonian oak casks to enhance structure and complexity. The result is a wine of great finesse, with aromas of wilted rose, cherry, sweet spices, and licorice. On the palate, it is balanced, fresh, with refined tannins and a long, mineral finish. Massolino
The history of the Massolino winery begins in 1896, the year in which Giovanni founded the company in Serralunga d'Alba. The first actual cellar, however, was built by Giuseppe, Giovanni's son, who together with his sister Angela extended the property by annexing other lands and in 1934 founded the Barolo and Barbaresco Protection Consortium. Giovanni, Camilla and Renato, three of Giuseppe's children, led the company to a turning point, thanks to the purchase of crus that are now true legends among enthusiasts: Vigna Rionda, Margheria and Parafada.
Today the company is led by brothers Franco and Roberto Massolino, assisted by their uncle Renato and Giovanni Angeli. Their work condenses the experience of an entire generation and the ambition of those who know they have to give credit to a historic winery and a unique terroir, that of Serralunga d'Alba. In this picturesque medieval village, located on one of the splendid hills of the Langhe, in the heart of the Barolo production area, the life of the Massolino winery comes alive, now an essential national point of reference for the production of very high quality wines.
