The Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 'Badia a Passignano' 2021 is made from a rigorous selection of the finest Sangiovese grapes grown around the ancient Vallombrosan abbey, an area devoted to viticulture since the year 1000. Ageing takes place in the evocative 10th-century cellars of the Badia di Passignano, in French and Hungarian oak barriques. It stands out for intensity and balance, with aromas of ripe cherry, orange peel, violet and dog rose, enriched by vanilla. On the palate it is enveloping, lively and juicy, with sweet, silky tannins and a long finish with hints of white chocolate. Perfect with game, roasts and aged cheeses.

Antinori

The Antinori Family has been dedicated to wine production for over six hundred years: since 1385, when Giovanni di Piero Antinori joined the Arte Fiorentina dei Vinattieri. Throughout its long history, through 26 generations, the family has always directly managed this activity with innovative and sometimes courageous choices, but always maintaining unwavering respect for traditions and the territory.
Today the company is led by Albiera Antinori, with the support of her two sisters Allegra and Alessia, who are personally involved in the company activities. The Marquis Piero Antinori is currently the Honorary President of the company. Tradition, passion, and intuition have been the driving qualities that have led the Marchesi Antinori to establish themselves as one of the leading Italian wine producers. Every vintage, every land, every idea that wants to be implemented is a new beginning, a new search for ever higher quality margins.
As the Marquis Piero likes to say: “the ancient roots play an important role in our philosophy, but they have never inhibited our innovative spirit.” Over time, in addition to the estates in Tuscany and Umbria, which are the family's historical heritage, investments have been made in other areas suitable for quality wine production both in Italy and abroad, where a new path of enhancing new "terroirs" with high wine-growing potential could be undertaken. The Marchesi Antinori expresses its passion for viticulture by seeking ever finer margins of improvement. For this reason, continuous experiments are carried out in vineyards and cellars with selections of clones of native and international grapes, types of cultivation, vineyard altitudes, fermentation methods and temperatures, traditional and modern winemaking techniques, different types of wood, sizes and ages of barrels, and varying the length of bottle aging. "We have demonstrated, over the years, that in Tuscany and Umbria there was the possibility to produce quality wines, recognized internationally, which could show elegance and finesse while always maintaining the original character.
Our library has many titles, but for us, it is not rich enough. We have a mission that is not entirely accomplished, which drives us to express the vast potential of our vineyards and to reconcile the new that remains to be discovered with the heritage of Tuscan taste that includes tradition, culture, agriculture, the artistic and the literary that indeed represent the identity of the Marchesi Antinori, of which one of the major strengths lies in being Tuscan, or, if you prefer, our 'Tuscanity'." Piero Antinori
The Antinori family has been part of PFV, "Premum Familiae Vini," an informal association of family-owned wine companies, since its founding. PFV goes beyond geographical boundaries and maintains a common bond: that of vineyard ownership and wine production as a family activity to be cultivated and refined, like a great wine, over time.

Badia a PassignanoIs located above Sambuca Val Pesa, 3 km south of Tenuta Tignanello; its 223 hectares stretch over limestone soil, reaching an altitude of 250 to 300 meters in one of the most beautiful and productive areas of the Chianti Classic. Its fundamental importance in the history of Chianti is recorded in hundreds of volumes, now kept in the State Archives of Florence, which provide information about the vineyards of Sangiovese and the area's crops. To confirm this, in 1983, a millennia-old Vitis vinifera plant was found in the lands surrounding Badia a Passignano.
The vineyards The circumstances of the Badia belong to the family Antinori Since 1987. Currently, there are 56 hectares of vineyards planted with Sangiovese (using selections of the best clones ofSangiovese taken from Tignanello from very old vineyards, planted with a density of 5,000 - 7,000 vines per hectare and grown using the cordon training system, and a small portion of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Badia a Passignano also has 19 hectares planted with olive groves, with the Frantoio, Leccino, and Moraiolo varieties.
