The pure Syrah 'Ogrà' by Famiglia Cotarella is born after years of experience with the Syrah variety cultivated in the vineyards of the winery. The grapes selected for the production of this wine come from the municipality of Castiglione in Teverina. The particular soil composition and characteristics have allowed for the production of very ripe and phenol-rich grapes. The wine is aged in French oak barriques for 18 months. It has an intense red color. On the nose, notes of rose petal emerge, followed by ripe cherry, then spices and sweetness of vanilla. On the palate, it is rich and full, a wine that envelops. Soft tannins and a very intense finish. Perfectly paired with rich and flavorful dishes such as game, red meats, and stews.

Cotarella

In the picturesque crossroads between Lazio and Umbria, where tradition meets innovation, the Cotarella winery comes to life. Born from the creative flair of a family of world-renowned oenologists, with Riccardo Cotarella at the helm, this wine reality has become a point of reference for those seeking elegant and modern wines, capable of captivating the most demanding palates internationally.
Immersed in the lush hilly landscapes of these two Italian regions, Cotarella has been able to capture the essence of the territory, producing wines that celebrate the IGP Umbria and Lazio denominations. The varieties of grapes cultivated, from Grechetto to Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, reflect a wise combination of local tradition and openness to the most appreciated international varieties. These grapes, nurtured with passion and respect for the environment, give rise to wines that stand out for their distinctive character and uncompromising quality.
Among the flagship labels of the winery, Montiano and Sodale stand out as authentic expressions of the Cotarella style. Montiano, with its complexity and aromatic depth, reveals itself as a wine of great charm and structure, while Sodale enchants with its elegance and softness, representing a perfect balance between tradition and modernity.
We invite all enthusiasts to discover the Cotarella labels on Vino45, a sensory journey through the hills of Lazio and Umbria, where every sip tells a story of passion, innovation, and respect for the land.

THE WINE
The pure Syrah 'Ogrà' from Famiglia Cotarella is born after years of experience with the Syrah variety developed in the winery's vineyards. The grapes selected for the production of this wine come from the municipality of Castiglione in Teverina. The particular location and composition of the soil have allowed for the production of very ripe and rich grapes in terms of phenolic aspects. The wine is aged in French oak barrels for 18 months. It has an intense red color. On the nose, notes of rose petal emerge, followed by ripe cherry, spices, and sweetness of vanilla. On the palate, it is rich, full-bodied, and enveloping. Soft tannins and a very intense finish. Perfect to pair with rich and flavorful dishes such as game, red meats, and stews.
THE COMPANY
The bond between the Famiglia Cotarella and the world of wine dates back to the 1960s when Antonio and Domenico Cotarella, grape growers in Monterubiaglio, a district of Castel Viscardo in the province of Terni, established the first winery for their own wine production. The brothers Renzo and Riccardo Cotarella, both winemakers raised in a land with a long winemaking tradition, driven by their father Domenico's passion, founded the current “Falesco” in 1979, transforming what was a small family business into a successful winemaking enterprise to leave for future generations.
It is here, on the border between Umbria and Lazio, that wines of undeniable charm are born, characterized by a contemporary style and also marked by particular longevity. Wines that in just a few decades have become ambassadors of Italian winemaking worldwide.
The company currently covers a vineyard area of about 280 hectares, plus another ninety hectares currently rented. In a hilly area characterized by volcanic soils, both native and international grape varieties are cultivated, including aleatico, trebbiano, malvasia, verdicchio, sangiovese, and vermentino, as well as merlot, syrah, viognier, and cabernet. Grapes are grown in full respect of the environment and ecosystem, and in the winery, they are processed using the most modern and advanced winemaking tools, always employed without ever distorting what the terroir and the season have expressed in the fruit.
