Faro di Le Casematte is one of the most interesting Sicilian wines. A blend of 4 native grape varieties from eastern Sicily, aged in French oak barrels. It originates from the extreme tip of Sicily that extends towards Calabria, a land of ancient traditions dating back to the first Greek colonization of the 8th century B.C. Produced in a small estate overlooking the strait, named after three fortifications dating back to World War I and II. A red with a sunny and Mediterranean profile, elegant sip, seductive and exciting harmony accompanied by a refined freshness and a typical sapidity. Floral aromas, notes of small berries, spicy hints, boisé, and nuances of Mediterranean scrub herbs. Deep, good structure, rich, dense fruit.

Le Casematte

At the border between land and sea, in the picturesque setting of the Messina coast, stands the winery Le Casematte, the result of the passionate vision of Gianfranco Sabbatino and actor Beppe Fiorello. Here, where the sea breeze blends with the warmth of the Sicilian sun, the ancient DOC Faro comes to life, an oenological gem that Le Casematte has been able to rediscover and enhance, giving it a new and bright identity.
The winery is nourished by the richness of the Sicilian territory, where the majesty of Etna is reflected in the vineyards that stretch towards the sea. The varieties of grapes cultivated, such as Nerello mascalese and Nocera, are emblems of this land: robust and tenacious grapes, capable of giving life to wines that express all the intensity and complexity of the Messina terroir. With an almost sacred respect for tradition, Le Casematte adopts winemaking practices that enhance the purity of the fruit and its natural evolution, maintaining a perfect balance between innovation and respect for the environment.
Among the most representative labels, the Faro is a wine that embodies the essence of Le Casematte: elegant and profound, it stands out for its marine aromas and mineral notes that evoke the proximity of the sea. The Peloro Rosso, on the other hand, offers a younger and more lively version, with fruity scents and a freshness that invites conviviality. Each sip is a sensory journey that transports directly to the Messina coast, among the golden reflections of the sun and the echo of the waves.
We invite all wine enthusiasts to explore the creations of Le Casematte on Vino45: an opportunity to discover the charm of a winery that has successfully relaunched an ancient tradition, transforming it into a modern icon of Sicilian elegance and authenticity.

THE WINE
Faro by Le Casematte is one of the most interesting Sicilian wines. A blend of 4 indigenous grape varieties from eastern Sicily, aged in French oak barrels. It originates from the extreme tip of Sicily that juts out towards Calabria, a land of ancient traditions dating back to the Greek colonization of the 8th century B.C. Produced in a small estate overlooking the strait, named after three fortifications dating back to World War I and II. A red wine with a sunny and Mediterranean profile, elegant in taste, with a seductive and exciting harmony alongside a refined freshness and typical savoriness. Floral aromas, hints of small berries, spicy notes, boisé nuances, and shades of Mediterranean scrub herbs. Deep, well-structured, rich, and dense fruit.
THE COMPANY
A very young winery that has already established itself as one of the best in the Sicilian wine scene. Le Casematte, founded in 2008 by Gianfranco Sabbatino and currently joined by footballer Andrea Barzagli, is a winery based primarily on passion and determination. Perched on a beautiful hill overlooking the Strait of Messina, the eight hectares of vineyards owned, along with an additional two currently rented, are strictly managed under organic farming practices. Among the rows, there is a strong territorial identity, which is why the grape varieties present are indigenous, historically used in this area for wine production. In the cellar, the guiding hand belongs to the renowned oenologist Carlo Ferrini, who skillfully enhances the grapes of nerello mascalese and nerello cappuccio, nocera and nero d’Avola, as well as carricante and grillo. Grapes where artificial intervention is minimized, as is the use of small wooden barrels. This is how the labels bearing the name of “Le Casematte” are born: wines crafted with meticulous artisanal care, remarkable in every aspect, elegantly natural, and above all, without any reservations, significantly contributing to restoring luster to a DOC - that of Faro - which in past years risked disappearing from the list of denominations.
