The Barbera d’Asti DOCG ‘Bricco della Bigotta’ 2019 by Braida comes from one of the finest vineyards in Rocchetta Tanaro and is the estate’s flagship Barbera together with ‘Bricco dell’Uccellone’. The 2019 vintage, marked by a rainy spring and a dry summer with sharp temperature shifts, allowed for slow and complete ripening, yielding grapes of great aromatic intensity and balanced tannins. After vinification, the wine matures 15 months in barrique and 12 in bottle, achieving remarkable balance and richness. In the glass, it shows a deep ruby red, with aromas of ripe fruit, spices, tobacco and cocoa. The palate is juicy, enveloping and complex, with long persistence. An outstanding Barbera, ideal with braised meats, game, roasts and aged cheeses.

Immersed in the picturesque hills of Piedmont, the winery Braida is a true tribute to Italian wine culture, capable of transforming Barbera into a liquid work of art. Thanks to a visionary approach and the visceral passion of its founders, Braida has managed to revolutionize the image of this grape variety, enhancing its ability to produce wines of extraordinary personality and complexity. The beating heart of the winery lies in the DOCG Barbera d’Asti, emblematic of a territory rich in history and tradition.
The journey into the world of Braida begins among the rows of Barbera, where the grapes are cultivated with an almost sacred respect for the land and its ancient traditions. Each bunch is the expression of a unique terroir, and the winery's production philosophy is based on a balance between innovation and the preservation of ancient values. In the cellar, winemaking techniques embrace modernity without ever betraying the essence of the past, giving rise to wines that tell stories of time and place.
Among the labels that proudly bear the name of Braida, the Bricco dell’Uccellone stands out as an oenological masterpiece. THE WINE
No other winery is as identified with a grape variety as Braida is with Barbera. The work that Giacomo Bologna has carried out over the last few decades is unparalleled and has paved the way for an entire generation of winemakers who, after him, have started to work confidently with this previously underappreciated variety. It can be said that it was Giacomo Bologna, with the “Bricco dell’Uccellone” and other wines that have made history in Italian oenology, who transformed the common beliefs about Barbera. By studying soils and exposures, waiting for complete ripening, and working it expertly in the winery, Giacomo Bologna was able to demonstrate the quality, finesse, and especially the longevity that could be achieved by vinifying Barbera grapes.
Today, the company represents the faithful image of Giacomo's philosophy, his way of understanding life, the land, wine, and relationships with friends. His children Raffaella and Giuseppe, both winemakers, constitute the third generation of the “Braida”, and are united by the dream and enthusiasm to continue the journey of nobility and quality for Barbera that their father started.
With over sixty hectares of vineyards, the company has its rows mainly in the lands of Rocchetta Tanaro, to which over the years have been added parcels in Castelnuovo Calcea, Costiglione d’Asti, Mango d’Alba, and Trezzo Tinella. Grapes cultivated and harvested in territories highly suited for viticulture are processed in the winery using the latest and most sophisticated winemaking technologies, always employed in full respect of the oldest traditions.
Thus, for years the Braida family has been synonymous with Italian drinking worldwide, thanks to labels that, in addition to the “Bricco dell’Uccellone”, are expressed in names such as “Montebruna”, “La Monella”, “Il Baciale”, “Bricco della Bigotta” and followed by all the others. Wines born under the sign of the resurgence of Barbera, and today symbols of the highest oenological excellence in Piedmont and Italy.
