The 2016 is a vintage of great balance and complexity for the prestigious cuvée 'Belle Epoque' by Perrier-Jouët, resulting from a masterful blend of 50% Chardonnay, 45% Pinot Noir, and 5% Meunier, sourced from excellence terroirs between Côte des Blancs and Montagne de Reims. The long aging of over 6 years on the lees enhances structure and finesse, giving rise to a Champagne that, despite its name, is not a Blanc de Noirs in the strict sense, but a perfect combination of elegance and intensity. On the nose, white flowers, candied citrus, yellow-fleshed fruit, dried fruit, and sweet spices stand out. The palate is full, creamy, and enveloping, with a vibrant freshness, silky texture, and a long, savory, and mineral finish. Ideal with refined dishes such as roast pigeon, caramelized shellfish, or aged Comté, it is one of the most harmonious expressions of the Belle Epoque philosophy.

Address:
Avenue de Champagne, 51200 Épernay, France
Color: intense golden yellow with amber reflections, a testament to the structure of Pinot Noir.
Perlage: very fine, dense, and persistent, a sign of long maturation on the lees.
Bouquet: broad, deep, and complex. It opens with scents of ripe red fruits, including cherry in brandy and blackberry, followed by notes of candied orange peel, chestnut honey, and spice cake. More evolved nuances of blonde tobacco, toasted hazelnut, and a hint of licorice emerge, all supported by a chalky minerality typical of the Côte des Blancs, where Perrier-Jouët has part of its vineyards.
Taste: broad, powerful yet perfectly balanced. The attack is enveloping and structured, with a very fine tannic texture that recalls the nobility of Pinot Noir. Citrusy freshness accompanies the flavor development, while the creaminess of the perlage adds harmony to the progression. Long, salty, and slightly smoky finish, with persistence on aromas of dried fruit and currant jam.
Overall Rating: 96/100

THE MAISON

Two centuries of traditions constitute a valuable heritage, represented by a true artisanal savoir-faire that has been passed down from generation to generation since 1811. It was in this year that the couple Pierre-Nicolas Perrier and Adèle Jouët founded the Maison Perrier-Jouët, which today has 65 hectares of vineyards, almost entirely classified at the top of the Grand Cru scale. A pioneer in traceability and the fight against counterfeiting, the Maison Perrier-Jouët was the first winery to feature the vintage on its vintage bottles. Among the vines, careful and far-sighted choices are all aimed at obtaining high-quality grapes, and the fruits harvested in the five main crus of what is defined as the “magic triangle of Champagne” - consisting of Cramant, Avize, Mailly, Aÿ, and Dizy - are consistently present in all of the house's cuvées. Bunches of Chardonnay with generous and aromatic scents, followed by fresh and delicate Pinot Noir, and finally Pinot Meunier, also generous and fruity, are processed in the cellar without seeking shortcuts, pursuing the highest quality level without ever compromising. From “Grand Brut” to “Blason Rosé”, up to the vintage “Belle Epoque”, producing Champagne consistently distinguished by a refined, intense, and sought-after style, the company offers a range of labels with unmistakable characteristics, marked by a wide and elegant aromatic persistence. All of this is the result of knowledge passed down over time and in the silence of the cellars, where the chefs de cave have cultivated and enhanced an important know-how that, as if that were not enough, is often enriched and embellished by internationally renowned artists who, since 1902, decorate the bottles that hold the most important cuvées of the house, almost celebrating the tasting of Champagne in a sort of union that combines art, poetry, and the beauty of everyday life.
