Veuve Clicquot

In the heart of Champagne, where the vineyards stretch as far as the eye can see between gentle hills and boundless skies, stands the famous house Veuve Clicquot, a name that resonates among sparkling wine enthusiasts around the world. Powerful and refined, this French winery embodies the elegance and freshness that only the greatest winemaking traditions can convey. Founded in 1772, Veuve Clicquot has been shaped with boldness and innovation by the vision of Madame Clicquot, the "Grande Dame de la Champagne", who transformed the art of sparkling wine production into a true philosophy of life.

THE WINE
The Champagne Extra Brut Extra Old Edition 2 by Veuve Clicquot is a classic blend made from Pinot Noir, Meunier, and Chardonnay, sourced from 20 different selected crus of the estate. Complex and rich in nuances, the Extra Brut Extra Old 2 blend is composed of 8 vintages selected from the most prestigious reserve wines of the Maison: 1990, 1998, 1999, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2012. This cuvée results from a double maturation process: first, the wine is placed in tanks for at least two years, then aged in bottles for another three years. Floral and fruity aromas in harmonious expressive balance culminate in a vibrant finish of freshness with a characteristically mineral signature. A Champagne that perfectly encapsulates the style of Veuve Clicquot.
THE MAISON

It all began in 1772 when Philippe Clicquot, a businessman and landowner, founded "un négoce de vin à l’enseigne Clicquot." A small operation that aspired to cross borders to introduce the new name of Champagne to the whole world. In 1798, François Clicquot, the son of the Maison's founder, married Barbe Nicole Ponsardin. It would be she who, after inheriting all the passion and expertise for the production and marketing of Champagne from her husband, would manage to grow the business into one of the most famous and renowned Maisons not only in the Reims area but in the entire Champagne region. Barbe Nicole Ponsardin, in fact, became a widow at just twenty-seven, and after her husband's death, she took firm control of the company, becoming one of the first great female entrepreneurs in modern history, known to all as the “widow Clicquot,” or “Veuve Clicquot,” from which the name of the Maison itself derives.
Under the guidance of the young widow, several insights benefited the entire denomination. From the first vintage Champagne, that of 1810, to the perfection of the remuage technique, and the development of the liqueur de tirage used for the second fermentation in the bottle, there is no aspect she did not personally oversee.
Not to mention her great commercial skill, through which Barbe Nicole Ponsardin managed in 1814 to overcome the continental blockade that immobilized Europe in trade exchanges, bringing her Champagne directly to Russia, to St Petersburg, with what is now known as the “cuvée Saint Petersbourg.”
In short, a story of excellence that continues today, under the auspices of the luxury group LVMH, which has owned the Maison since 1986, thanks to Champagne with a unique personality, always recognizable in their immediate elegance and extraordinary refinement.
