Negroamaro
Negroamaro is a wine that tells the story and tradition of Salento, one of the most fascinating and culturally rich wine regions in southern Italy. Its name, which combines the Latin term "niger" and the Greek "mavros," literally means "black-black," a clear reference to the intense and dark characteristics of its grapes. This indigenous Apulian grape variety is primarily cultivated in the provinces of Lecce, Brindisi, and Taranto, where it finds its ideal habitat thanks to the warm climate and sea breezes that caress the vineyards.
The origins of Negroamaro are deeply rooted in the ancient history of Puglia, a region where viticulture was introduced by the Greeks and later perfected by the Romans. This grape variety has become a symbol of authenticity and resilience, representing one of the most genuine expressions of the Salento terroir. Its ability to adapt to the calcareous and sandy soils of the area, combined with the expertise of local winemakers, has given rise to wines of great personality and complexity.
From a production standpoint, Negroamaro is often vinified as a single varietal, but it also lends itself to interesting blends, especially with Malvasia Nera, to create the famous Salice Salentino. The grape harvest generally takes place between the end of September and the beginning of October, when the clusters have reached perfect ripeness. After fermentation, the wine is aged in wooden barrels to further enhance its structure and complex aromas.
The organoleptic profile of Negroamaro is fascinating and varied. On the nose, it presents a rich and enveloping bouquet, where notes of ripe red fruits, such as cherry and plum, stand out, accompanied by spicy hints of black pepper, tobacco, and cocoa. On the palate, the wine reveals itself to be full-bodied and structured, with a pleasant softness and well-integrated tannins that accentuate its persistence. The finish is long and slightly bitter, a characteristic that underscores its uniqueness and decisive character.
Negroamaro is an extremely versatile wine, perfect for accompanying traditional Apulian dishes, such as orecchiette with ragù, meat rolls, and aged cheeses. Thanks to its structure and intensity, it also pairs beautifully with roasted meat dishes and game, enhancing the flavors with elegance and harmony.

Whether you are a long-time enthusiast or a curious newcomer, Negroamaro will offer you a unique sensory experience, taking you on a journey to discover the secrets of one of Italy's most fascinating regions.
