THE ESTATE

The Domaine Marc Bouthenet is located in Burgundy in Cheilly-les-Maranges, in the southern area of Côte de Beaune, almost on the border with Côte Chalonnaise. It is a Domaine distributed across the three municipalities of Maranges and Santenay, managed by a family that has been dedicated to viticulture for over four generations. Today, the estate is led by Marc, who after traveling the world gaining winemaking experience in numerous wineries in important wine regions, returned to France to continue the family tradition. The Domaine has grown over time thanks to the purchase of particularly valuable parcels and today spans 20 hectares.
The vineyards constitute the precious treasure of the Domaine and are managed with great attention to the environment, according to the principles of “lutte raisonnée.” Marc is, in fact, aware that only from healthy and genuine grapes can great wines be born, in line with the centuries-old tradition of excellence of a region famous worldwide like Burgundy. The interrows are covered with grass to promote biodiversity and the natural fertility of the soil. Only organic fertilizers are used, and treatments are carried out for each individual parcel and only when strictly necessary. The vines have an average age of about 45 years and are cultivated with low yields, in order to obtain few clusters per plant, with good concentrations of aromas.
According to the oldest customs of the area, the vineyards of the Domaine host the classic grapes of the region: primarily Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, but also Aligoté, which expresses itself at excellent levels in this area. All harvests are carried out by hand, with selection in the vineyard of the best clusters. The vinification is conducted in a traditional manner, with minimal intervention, in order to maximize the qualities of the grapes. Aging takes place in French oak barriques, according to the customs of the area. The Domaine Bouthenet offers a range of very interesting labels, highlighting the peculiarities of each terroir of the estate, including noteworthy Premier Cru bottles of high qualitative level.
